I'm not going to give a detailed opinion of everything on your site, but one thing that I would like to see is the navigation menu buttons to be animated. For example, when clicking them, they appear to have a 3-D effect, if you know what I'm referring to.
Another thing that I've noticed is the side bar thing that you have on the right side of the forums. I never really liked those. They seem to take away from the 'forum feel'. I would rather see the forum stretched out all the way towards the right and have the side bar moved over somehow.
Thanks for the feedback, though I personally like the smooth transition from site to forum which would be destroyed by removing the sidebar. We'll see what I do about that but until I get too much more feedback about that I think I'll keep it how it is in that regard.
P.S. Added the effect when the buttons are being clicked.
As opposed to having that sidebar on the right, you could bring your buttons at the top a bit closer together and perhaps have a drop down list. On the home page, I think the text in the news boxes is too close to the table border, making it look a bit untidy.
Your links are dark blue, and your click links are purple, and these don't go against your background, so they're hard to read. Change that, definitely. As far as your forums go, I love it, although the Site Managers usergroup colour makes it a bit hard to read. Well done.
I fixed the news boxes and the links, Sam, I don't quite understand what you mean about the usergroup, and I think I like the menu format how it is. It is easier to navigate without the drop down menus in my opinion, but I'm still open to suggestions about this.
That's great. Apart from that, I think everything looks just fine, but I still think that drop down menus would be more appropriate than a sidebar (which looks a bit cluttered).
Yes, the colours are very dull, but I like how interactive some parts of the site are, and you already have a guide and some calculators posted, so you must have been working hard.
The colours aren't dull - the shades of navy blue and grey work well together, and they're really easy on the eyes. If you think the colours are too dull, you should suggest an alternative.
I suppose that could work, but not by changing the style completely - replacing parts with a Dark Red or Orange colour would look nice if it wasn't too gratuitous...keep the background colour 😀 .
