Opinions on phpBB3

I'm not at all familiar with any code beyond HTML and a little javascript; I have no idea.

I'm having a hard time finding simple things, like "mark all topics as read."

Also, I can't figure out how to use the target tag to open links in a new tab/window.

Other than that, which I presume is due to my own sleepiness, it seems slick.

Although, I do have some trepidation about freeforums rolling it out without having a backup feature.

i like the extra options, even if i do need a map to get round the acp

Err, I'll let you know when I've been here a bit longer. ~cheesey_grin~

I only joined here yesterday and it's my first experience of phpbb3.
At the moment I'm really not sure about it.

That acp sounds very daunting.
Max, do we all get a map to find our way around ? ~lol~

All i can say on the acp is that i find it easy to use. I have no problems with it at all and it was very easy to learn. The only problem i had was getting used to the permissions system. I was quite strange. ---

I am not looking forward to it.

I need to get Dreamweaver (or something similar) to create a front page as FF are not coming forward with whether or not they are introducing the Protal Mod.

Also templates. I have heard rumors of no templates. However the current at http://www.noortiefings.net is now perfect, I managed to locate the main dir for the graphics so I can create the Portal using the same style but what will be the point without the Forum looking the same.

All these could be negative rumours but I can't help feeling they are right.

EDIT

I have just seen the price of Dreamweaver...anyone recommend another package (pref. Freeware).

FF will introduce a portal mod at some point. They just can't say when as they have a lot to do with the actual phpBB3 coming out and problems that might cause plus they can't really install a portal unless they know that there will be no issues with it as that might have bugs and/or security issues and they don't want to implement it if it like that. The same would go for templates as well. Quite a few have been made or are in development but like this one still has bugs in as well.

As for making a Front Page you could use Front Page if you have it. I don't Know if you can download it but i am using that for this site but it is taking a lot of time and i have not worked on it for a week or so because it is annoying to use.

This is the website so far - http://www.forumpromotion.net/indextest.html

Thanks Fowler.

I have also put a request on FF too see if anyone knows of a similar software to DreamWeaver.

I would like to give DreamWeaver a blast but at Nearly £400 I will give it a miss.

Sort of yes. It isn't going to be that big. Just an index page, affiliate page and a few more but it will help bring all the areas of the site together like the top site and the forum.

That's nice fowler. It's looking good so far,

And for the free site builder alternative to dreamweaver:
you can download nvu for free. The portable app is available from portableapps.com
