Our Car has been stolen today!

My dad has filed a police report and been to the police station today. Someone has attempted to steal our car to resell it, but hasn’t succeeded in it and instead has damaged it. My parents have to pay a few thousand dollars to fix it.

If the police find who did it, I'd make them pay to fix it instead of fixing it myself. They did the damage so they should fix it. Otherwise, shouldn't the insurance fix it if you've filed a police report?

Nop, insurance doesn’t pay for it at all. Dad is driving a borrowed car from our dealer. It’s completely and totally unusable currently for my dad.
