Have you ever had someone... who gives you too much praise and too much credit for being who you are or who you may not be?

I have had a friend or two that have done this in the past. Constantly giving overly positive unreal remarks and compliments to the point its hard to believe. But I've always liked having friends that treated me in equality and I could feel they were very open and honest with me. The way my wife is with me. She's very honest in both an equal amount of ways both pessimistic and optimistic. She doesn't treat me like I have the sun shining out of my ass or as though I fart rainbows too.

I don't like being treated as though I'm better or as if the person looks up to me. It just makes me feel bad as either that person isn't being honest or if they're just being overly dramatic based on their opinion that I'm a good person.

Sure. I don't like being underestimated either in a pessimistic light from someone who hates my guts.

But it feels if someone is your enemy, they will berate and underestimate versus someone who likes you and just blindly see's you as a good person and just gives overly optimistic compliments that are unbelievable. Unbelievable as in you wonder if they would keep that opinion should you ever wrong them or upset them. It makes you feel like they don't fully know you. It makes you feel like they aren't aware that you're capable of doing some snide things to other people and making mistakes. Instead they make you feel like they idolize you and they shouldn't.

I'm justing saying I prefer equality over obsessive and excessive pessimistic and positive remarks. I want those friends to tell me if I'm screwing up and they don't like it. Not just give false and over dramatic praise or over dramatic constant negative commentary.

If you get my meaning.

I know exactly how you feel and I've felt this way with some of the things my friends, girlfriend and coworkers have said about me. Such as "You're extremely intelligent' though, it feels nice to hear that, but I know that is far from true. At work I've heard things such as "You're the hardest worker here" 1. I feel like that person is being sarcastic? Or, 2. He really meant it and I just don't know how to take compliments. I do work hard, but I find it hard for me to say "I work the hardest!", it sounds cocky and that's not how I am.

I've also been under estimated as well and that is quite annoying. Especially when that person under estimating you does not know your background or what goes through your head.

This is a great topic and interesting because I haven't seen this particular topic discussed else where.

Thanks Jupiter, you're the best thread starter in the world! 😛
