Have any of you found yourselfs owning more than one forum? And is the concept really practical or, would it be impossible to manage like two or three forums at once?

For myself, I nearly did that myself years ago but I figured that would be really awkward to do, but I'm aware that others are more capable of doing it though.

I have previously. Usually it is easy initially when the individual forums aren't that active yet. As the forums get more active, spending individual time on each forum gets a little more difficult to do, especially if school or jobs get in the way of providing good time to them.

Probably why at a point, getting staff helps some with the load of making sure the forum(s) are active and clean are essential.

I previously attempted to run more than one forum and found that it was just too much. I attempted to run 3 forums in one go and it never went as well as I had hoped it would. Thinking back now I feel if I had of had more help it could have been a success. Was a bad time to attempt it unfortunately.

I find it is easier to own/manage one forum and that's it. Especially when the activity level increases. It might seem easy to start up a community but once a forum reaches a certain activity level, you're not going to be able to maintain your presence on that forum.

It's incredibly easy if you can fight spam. However, though, if you want to give serious time to them, it might be impossible except for one or two - leaving the others hanging.

I only run one. Even though I have two running I mainly focus on one. You tend to get extra busy and confessed and even stressed out to the point that both website's are not getting the full respected. So running one at one time is better.

What is the other besides Bayside?

The other is baysideves.com that I just left it and never worked on, Used to be an community back in 2012

Too many projects is a big concern. However, high domain authority or some other positive aspect could encourage one to at least focus on one. In other words, it would be worth the time.

I've had a go before, which was just about manageable but to be quite fair they didn't go that well so not that much of a commitment! I'd much prefer to own one forum and put 100% into that one and build up a high-quality base before thinking of another one based on my own past!

I only ever owned one forum at one time. I did have multiple ones of my old forum, though. When I first started, I kept having to move around because I didn’t like the software, etc. I wouldn’t be able to handle having more than one especially now since I’m so busy, it’s too much to keep up with. 😛

I have. And it was always a struggle and didn't go well, no matter how much I thought I could handle it beforehand. Balancing two forums, managing two staff teams, posting new content on two boards, and so on is time consuming and a lot of effort.

Before you go this route, I suggest thinking about these things:
- Can you truly dedicate the same amount of time you're giving to your first forum to a second one, without detracting from the time spent on Forum 1?

- Could you integrate your idea for Forum 2 into Forum 1, instead of creating an entirely new community?

- What is your motivation for creating another forum? Is it to monetize? Are you bored with Forum 1? Just for fun? Think about your why before starting out and you'll have a clearer idea of whether or not you should do it and how you should do it.

Same, I'm like you rather have one to put the most affect into the site. Also leave me little time to do other things. More sites you run the more time you tend to taken up.
