I have an active Patreon page for my YouTube brand. I make over $150 a month with that.
I'm the Community Manager of Copyblogger which is a paid community. I get paid as an employee of Copyblogger for that.
I think forums need to upgrade their standards and strategies in regard to premium membership plans if they really wish to utilize these features for earning an income with their forums.
For starters, set a monthly fee versus a low annual free.
But the benefits have to be upgrades as well. A custom user title and banner isn't enough anymore.
How do you all feel about this subject? Have any of you modernized your premium membership? If yes, has it been successful at all?
