At what point during the community timeline do you think it is appropriate to have a paid subscription offering?

Do you think a new forum shouldn't create paid upgrade account features?

What do you folks think about this one?

I wouldn't say for new members no. Maybe when they have reached a good posting milestone then allow it.

I would remember though, that your regular posters should have better privileges further down the line than a paid upgrade account.

I suppose too it can depend on what your forum is about which can change everything.

Just my few cents.

Paid based groups mostly mean you get an upgraded account and it helps the site as it pays them to keep the forum going, supports them. I allow subscriptions for anyone, doesn't matter if you are new or old.

You can offer paid subscription when your community is really huge and you offer useful and interesting information, or when you want funds and ask the users to support the community through a paid subscription.

I think sponsor memberships for people who donate to the community is reasonable. They get a nice donation badge or different colored username that shows their dedication.
