Listen, I see a lot of you starting a paid to post forum ever since Marketswag was displayed (and some before - I'm not saying anyone copied me, so don't even bring it up). Thing is, running a PTP forum is not the same as running a gaming forum, you need some prerequisites before even attempting it, so let me warn you.

You need to be able to:
  • Put up with others from other countries and lacking English skills.
A LOT of Public Relations. A lot of people talk about your forum externally if it ends up taking off.
    You can't make mistakes.
You need about $400 to start it up.
Have a bank account to receive payments from advertisers.

I'm not trying to scare people from starting a PTP forum, but what I'm about to say will scare of some people from starting scam sites (you don't play = scam). With Marketswag, I purchased it at about 500 members. Little did I know was that I was about to get hammered. We received an influx of members, about 1.5k more members in the next 4 weeks. We have a constant userbase from foreign countries and more. Members are very stubborn. Also, they don't like general discussion as much, instead they enjoy online/monetising/finance discussions. Furthermore, many will post spam. You need to constantly monitor posts.

You need to be dedicated and heck, have prior experience. There is no success in copying, only in genuine actions. Don't even bother if you're only looking to scam people, it won't work.

To people who also want to comment about Marketswag and how we claim we're the highest paying, we actually are (proven). We allow the most posts per day at this rate and the payment processors. Find me another forum that does.

There is no success in copying,

I suppose you are referring to me for using images that I have used before MarketSwag opened?

I'm not trying to cause problems, but that is crap.

Trust me, that was not aimed at you. Don't flatter yourself, I've had people rip my themes, my content and more.

Alright, done.

Nice little guide you wrote there. I thought you said you were done making these threads on FP?

You thought wrong. This is just a thread to help you and others.

I agree with this thread no doubt. There has been a recent increase in ptp forums, but it's not really something bad. I mean if they feel as though they can manage it they can go for it 100%. I understand the reason for this post, to make people think twice about opening a ptp forum. What responsibility's come with opening one and that you need to think of the bigger picture and not just about the present. Great guide you have here. Just hope it isn't going out to threaten those new ptp communities. :great:

I agree with you The Elite. If we don't pay and scam people our forum won't go over a thousand posts.

The first forum I ever owned was a web hosting one. In an effort to make it more active we started offering free hosting, domains names and cash in return for forum cash. Hence we were paid to post. We paid $0.10 per post but only paid members for four posts in any one day.

I agree with the points made above, the level of spam we received was not something that I was prepared for at the time and it was damaging for the forum. However, if you really want to see what spam is like start a business forum, I don't exactly know the reason why but any forum related to business receives a deluge of spam, actually it's probably because the spammers believe that the members have lots of money to spend.

Have a bank account to receive payments from advertisers.
Have you got advertisers that cannot pay you via PayPal?

Edit: What does "Mk." stand for?

Yes, we also receive quite a bit of spam since we have a section about marketing and finance. Google Adsense doesn't pay via PayPal and we're earning around $300-$400 from them /mo.

Mk. means okay.

Exactly, thanks for your feedback.

It's not bad, I love competition as I said. I just wanted to post this so people don't end up in trouble.

I agree with you 100%. There is no way new people in the website/forum owning world would be able to handle a PTP host, let alone one still in school. You need a lot of money to start off, and you need to think quickly how you are going to regenerate that money, else you will be losing money very quickly. I have a full time job, and would think my whole paycheck would get spent a fortnight paying people to post on my forum if i didn't use ads etc.

I think people want to have a active forum and think this is the way to do so.

Oh, and one other thing, the minute you stop paying, or suggest you won't be able to pay anymore, people will leave, no questions asked, they are only there for one thing, and that is money.

There are a lot of people making ptpforums.... And the sad part is a lot of them are scammed.. This one I trusted I got scammed from.. And I'm not going to post links but many are scams.

I wouldn't even dream of starting a paid to post site. I'm lucky I got enough time for my current forum as it is! I would never have time for a business like that.
