My sister is getting paranoid with Facebook. She had ordered her 3 children (who are all adults) to make their posts private. No more public posting. Her reason? When we are out of the house and you post what you are doing, say eating in a restaurant, criminals may take not of it and raid our house. Pardon me if you are like my sister but I see it as being paranoid. Why join social media when you don’t want people to see your posts?

Definitely, The Wet Bandits from Home Alone :wtf: have a weapon a million times more powerful at their disposal.

How will the criminal know where they live?

Depends on how much information you share on Facebook. There are plenty of ignorant people that put their address on Facebook and forget to tweak their privacy settings, but more so photos with a cell phone can leave a GPS code location. In fact most newer Android and Apple phones between 2014-2017 have a setting about location tracking with photos. So if you take a picture and post it online someone could get the GPS coordinates from the photo you just took.

Social media is definitely a fool's paradise, no offense. A lot of well meaning Yuppies and others are leaving themselves wide open to crime.

Actually, Facebook strips out the EXIF data to preserve privacy.

Ah I was not aware of this. Thanks for mentioning it, but still that isn't the case for all websites. So it is still best to be careful regardless where you share photos.

Getting your privacy settings correct on Facebook and other social media will help prevent any thefts or unwanted activities.
