When people visit your site, what's the first thing you want them to see at the top besides a logo?

Something engaging. Content to entice both guests and members alike to delve further into the site.

For my non-forum sites, I aim to have some sort of image slider that brings attention to the particular articles that I would like to emphasize. This is typically just the latest articles, but I've also used it to bring more attention to our podcast articles as well.

I try to have a guest-optimized home page with the basics on the first fold. Everything you would need to know if you land on the home page for the first time. Plus some article teasers, etc.

I have a welcome message that includes a registration link and a login form. The welcome message gives viewers a quick overview of what the forum is about and its purpose.

Logo -> Welcome Message -> Main Niche Boards

Too many forum admins put forum news boards at the top. I used to be one of them. Put the boards you want posted in the most at the top of your forum. Put that boards that make the forum what it's about at the top of the forum.

Don't make people find them because people have short attention spans these days.

The epic home page that shows epic things 😛
