Do you use password protection on any forums on your board? What types of forums have passwords and who has the passwords?

Personally I don't see the point in passwords when you can just create various permission masks to block off access to certain areas on the site.

I don't. Honestly, having to enter in a password to access a board every time would be really tedious. Like you said, you can just set up permissions with different groups.

You can usually save the password (and only have to enter it once), but I agree, it can be tedious and unnecessary.

When I first created my forum there was a password to access the staff sections and premium section, but that was removed quickly in favor of permissions.

I don't think it is necessary as you can just change permissions for different members and this way you don't have to remember the password.

I remember the FP Staff Board used a password, and then the Team Leader baord also did, but pretty sure they were removed since they were tedious I'm assuming.

I don't use a password protected forum.. I bet it would get annoying after a while and I would prolly forget the password 😛

I've been of forums where a password was required to get into some sections but it was more for fun rather than security reasons. Having access to certain boards that others didn't have access to felt like you were part of an exclusive club. I've seen forums have password protected areas where they have it titled along the line of "Mature Audience Only" or "18 Yrs Old or Older Only" but I never had an interest in gaining access to those areas because I can only imagine what sort of topics are discussed in there.
