Would it be worthwhile to pay your members to recruit others onto the forum? If you consider how much money it can cost for PPC and even banner advertising, maybe it would make sense. Even if you paid a nominal amount such as $0.10 per new member recruited (assuming the new member bothered to stick around and post), then it would be cheaper than any kind of advertising. Member recruiting contests with cash prizes might be a good idea too. Would you do this?

I'm pretty unsure, seeing how it can quite easily just sprout lots of fake accounts created by the referrer. I think the forums where I've seen this done they've required like 5-15 posts done to be eligible, so I guess that could work.

But then again why not just hit up ClickWorkers or something and pay for them to do the same thing? I guess the overall quality (or the lack of it) would be on par.

I dont think its a good idea to pay your members for more sign ups unless you have a system to check the fake accounts. Remember, proxies are something we really cant do anything about.

I tend to agree with Saru. If you do pay for referrals, requiring the referral to make a certain amount of quality posts isn't to much to ask for in my opinion as it at least adds value to the referral. You also need to have guidelines in order for cases of abuse.

I don't think its worth paying money out to people to join and be active.

I agree 100%. I'd rather users be active and post around on their own accord. It's not really a long-term solution paying for people to post. There are other expenditures to worry about when running a forum. 😛

This pretty much. I would also rather pay for members to post instead of recruit, there's no point in paying people to make accounts or recruit their legit friends and family when they probably won't even stay active on the forums to begin with.

So it will be just like a magazine and you have a team to check the quality to post on your forum? So how can it be called forum?

I mean if we pay for posting, you have to analyse the quality of post, and it likes a magazine.

Of course, however, you would also have to check the accounts you paid for to make sure the are legit, and then worry if they are going to be active or not.
