Hello all,

The question that has got me thinking and worried for sometime now is:

Do you got to pay a tax on the amount you earn per day/week/month/year as a webmaster online to your government?

I'm not up to date with all this taxes and stuff and I find it to be quite complex...

Money transactions going through paypal government can't access but what if they can in the future? Then its pay day for all those deals you made...

Also on money you earn through paid memberships or google adSense? How does that work?

I don't, simply since I won't be living in this country within 2 years time anyway so if/when I go back in the future I'll worry about it.

They won't be able to tax you on past transactions, only future ones. It's like when they illegalize something that was previously legal, for example when they made alcohol illegal for anyone of all ages. They couldn't arrest people who had drank alcohol in the past, only those that did in the future.

If that's the case then why are you screwed if you get audited and you haven't been filing your taxes for years, hmm?

You should. And especially in my country India, paypal requires our PAN card number to process paypal payments, which means everything i buy and sell through paypal will be noted by Government.

But the thing is, until my yearly income is more than 2,00,000 rupees ($4000), i don't have to pay taxes. I would have to pay it next year, as i will be joining a job, and my yearly income would be way more than that. 🙂

I wouldn't be surprised in the future if the government did this considering were in a trillion dollar debt.

I think if you are a webmaster and you make more than $400.00, it counts as being self-employed and you must file on it.
Self-employed individuals generally must pay self-employment tax (SE tax) as well as income tax.

If you were legally required to pay that tax in those years then yes, you can be.sent to jail. I think Panda is talking about something becoming illegal after you don't, in which case you can't be trailed for it, as at the time it was complete legal.

Taxes? As far as I'm concerned, I'm not paying any now as a webmaster.
