Hi all,

I have download PC-BSD to put on my HP laptop dv2188ea but it fails to install, gets to the installation part of the installer and its says

partitioning fdisk

Error unable to fdisk unknown file system, install halted please restart!

I have tried formattion the HDD repartitioning in a different machine but nothing works

any ideas whats wrong. its 32bit version too

Wow trying pcbsd on your machine instead of vm. That is brave.

I think you will need to use a partition cd and create a blank partition before hand. It will then install no problem.

The problem it is having is you seem to be installing it over a windows partition which the filesystem(fat or ntsc ) pcbsd cannot read.

Ok i will see if i can create a boot cd and try and partition the disk as a different file format!

Any idea what file system it uses?

The PC i am trying to install it on is just and old laptop i use for work!

my main laptop is my macbook pro :cheer:

It uses UFS doesn't it? Haven't looked at it in a while.

I believe it uses zfs . If you create a blank partition it won't matter.
