I drove past a house earlier on my way to go shopping and in their front window stood a Xmas tree with it's god damn lights on, it is September for crying out loud

I went to Wal-Mart last week and found Christmas stuff in the back of the store in the Lawn & Garden department. I was thinking the same thing, it's September. We got a little less than 2 1/2 months before December, why are they putting the stuff out now?

Most Supermarkets are stocking things for xmas already but Xmas Tree in September is plain wrong

Most people are hanging up Halloween and Christmas decorations already. Tons of people do that, I've even seen somebody that had their Christmas decorations in their yard even when it was already a few months after Christmas...

There were some people in my town that had decorations up for a half a year. I guess they were just lazy, and didn't feel like taking them down.

My grandma does that. xD Her Christmas lights turn into Easter lights after a while.

I've seen tons of people do this. It's what they prefer, maybe they are disabled and can't take the tree down? Maybe it's to commemorate something tragic? Maybe they lost a child on Christmas and that reminds them of it?

Shouldn't say something is wrong because you don't do it.

I always decorate for Christmas a day or two after Thanksgiving. Some people say that is too early, but nothing like doing it in September. Lol its still HOT outside, doesnt feel very christmasy.

We usually decorate a month before December, but sometimes we delay and do it a week or two before Christmas. 😀 The longest we have ever gone without taking it down after Christmas, was about a month and a half.

That's what we do as well. Put everything out a day or two after Thanksgiving.

I know I found it strange once when mom and I went shopping back in January. Michael W. Smith's "It's a Wonderful Christmas" was still on the shelf in the religious music section. I thought it was kind of odd, since this was January 9th, but it was still the Advent/Christmas season in the Church, so in the end I thought that's probably why his Christmas album was still on the shelf.

Nothing weird about it. People do it to get what they want before things sell out. I work at Target as Backroom Team Member and we have been getting christmas stuff for a few weeks now.

I got my Christmas cards a few weeks aho because they were so cheep as the shop was closing down that week so I thought why not and I put them in a draw till December

I never put up my decorations up till the second week in December

That's kind of what I figured with the MWS album. Course, for all we know, they could've had it out for a few weeks by the time I got my copy. As I said, I just found it awkward at first that his album was still on the shelf, and it was nine days into the new year, but, I know the Advent season in the church goes for quite some time as well, so it could've very easily been a church related deal as well. And no, this wasn't a place like the Christian Bookshelf, this was actually at Wal-mart believe it or not.

For the want of repeating myself, the point I was making was not to do with the fact stores are stocking Xmas products as that is quite normal for this time of year but the fact some average Joe think's it is ok to put up their Xmas decorations in September. Now i like Xmas just as much as anyone but putting up your decorations this earlier in my view is pretty sad.

I am curious as to what exactly the problem is with someone putting up decorations early? Does it somehow affect your life and make you incapable of living yours simply because these decorations are up? Does your entire world just grind to a halt all because someone felt like setting things up early?

I honestly wouldn't look down on someone who makes a choice that I wouldn't make because I honestly wouldn't care. It's their life and if they wish to start prepping their house for Christmas early then that's their choice and I am cool with it. As long as it doesn't involve shining bright lights into my windows and playing loud music all hours of the night then that's their business. I really don't see what's so sad about someone being a bit different.

Couldn't have put that any better if I tried. I seriously agree, Bluezone. Just because this is something out of the ordinary for you, it could be completely normal for someone else.

Look at you two on your high horse, god...... Last time I checked we have a right to an opinion! and my opinion is this person is really sad/strange take your pick. So you are telling me you don't find it slightly weird that someone thinks it is perfectly ok to have a Christmas Tree up in September, if that is your opinion then WOW the world is bonkers. Also if I am not mistaken this is a forum for opinions and discussion, so don't talk down to those who have one

Someone said this to me earlier in jest "Perhaps we should start a new pre-christmas tradition just for people like this - "Carol Slapping" it would be a bit like happy slapping but we would sing few quick bars of 'Oh come all ye faithful' first to make it more festive." I think they might be on to something 😛

Oh the irony of your post is astounding. You cry out about your right to an opinion while telling me that I shouldn't have that right and after I made no mention of your rights to post your thoughts on this. You are the one going around judging people you don't know then tell me that I am on a high horse. It's different and weird to me(key words being to me) but I don't have a problem with differences because it's the differences we have that makes this life worth living in the first place. I don't go looking at different cultures or people and mock them because they aren't like me. I see it as they just have a different view of the world and by allowing them to show you the world as they see it makes you a better person but you apparently don't see that. You just see your own viewpoint and then you mock all those who have a different viewpoint.

So who is the sad one here: the guy who puts up his decorations earlier then most for reasons neither of us knows or the one mocking him without even knowing the person or why they do what they do?
