People Asking For +Rep

I have to admit, this annoys the heck out of me. Messages in exchanges and other posts saying stuff along the lines of, "If you liked my service, rep," or even worse, "Okay done, rep me." Frankly, I'm tempted to -Rep whenever I see it.

To me that seems like you're only doing the service for the rep, instead of whatever the exchange was for. People should only give rep when they deem it worthy and shouldn't be told to do it. However, I do see, as a result of this, people who mindlessly look at the message and think, "Hey, they asked to repped, I'll rep them." :/ It just seems unfair on the people who have never asked for Rep. :shake:

Eh, just my two cents. What's your opinion on the matter?

I don't think it's fair that users should have to give rep because of this. The user who requested could give some FP if they have enough but you only get to rep each hour or something?

I do not agree with you. If you did a good job you deserve a +rep, even the Packagers and Reviewers "ask" for +rep when they complete their job. My opinion.

I do not agree on this matter, I do believe that one should be able to "ask" for rep after they have done something that another user has requested.

Depends how they ask in my opinion.

If they say "Done, rep me now", it seems demanding..and very annoying. It's true.

However, if someone says "I appreciate any rep given", I don't think it's annoying. And likelihood is that I'll actually rep them if they hint at it politely.

If people work hard on a service, I think they deserve some rep so long as they go about asking it nicely...and not make it sound like a requirement.

I hate when people ask for +rep. I don't think I have ever done it.

I really couldn't give two flying shits about my rep, and think people stress about rep too much.

I find it stupid that people ASK for rep. If you deserve rep, you will get it. If you deserve rep and you don't get it, then shame on the other person.

In all honesty, rep is just a dumb game. Your 'rep' does not say who you are, it just says you got a high or low amount.

I think hinting is all right, it still leaves the user the option. It is not going to take off if I rep them just because the posted something hinting they'd like to. The same way, if I already didn't think if REp them that they ask won't change that, if I consider it after reading it, it is because they actually did something that is making me consider to do it. But I don't think I'll just mindlessly will rep people just because they ask.

As stated above, it is just some addition to the boards, but many turns them into popularity contests, just like post ranks.

I dont think people should ask for rep or suggest that a rep be given to them. They should be given out because the person wanted to do it, not because they felt they had to.

Whenever someone says "Rep is appreciated", I do not give it...they are pretty much asking for it, and unless they buy me a Ferrari, I am not going to do it.

Your choice whether to rep them or not. It's not like you HAVE to rep them for something. The likelihood is if someone does rep them when they "hint" for rep, they did do a good job. Simple. I don't find a rep system getting used too much that ISN'T on a Service Board anyway, even if the board is somewhat large. If you enjoyed the service, and the person was trustworthy and came to their ends...then they did a good job and are simply politely asking for the means to know that they're trustworthy/appreciated.

Now if people go around demanding rep from services, or do the "Done. Please rep now.", thing. Then it's likely if they do gain any rep from it, their attitude will lead to them quickly losing it.

The "Rep Mod" isn't very different from what happens all over the webs anyway. Companies will hint at the fact that if they enjoyed the service, then to leave some feedback. And once they receive that feedback, they may use it to help them appear more trustworthy.

And on non-service based boards. There's not really much of a use for a reputation system. 😕 And if there are, then users simply will give rep when they feel they really liked the opinions beliefs, as you said. And users who quickly receive negative rep, will likely step on the admins toes and receive a whack in the face with a banhammer.

I understand what you mean and I actually don't mind too much if Rep is politely asked, because yes, it's polite and most people that do ask politely actually do a decent job. However, I still feel that the idea shouldn't be 'hinted' at all. :/

Though I once did an exchange with one of the 'polite' askers and they kept 'politely' hounding me via PM to give him Rep. That was rather annoying, which may explain why I still have a little distaste for the polite ones as well.
