Does this happen to any of you guys? I have this one member on my forum who keeps begging me to practically turn Chatting Time into a promotion/Webmaster forum. We had to remove our advertisement section as it was being abused, but he keeps pestering us to readd it, and he keeps badgering us to add things to our shopping mall such as post/cash exchanges, as well as other forum related services. I keep telling him that forum promotion is NOT our primary focus and never has been. He's the only member who keeps bugging us about advertisement opportunities. I finally put my foot down and said that from now on, any request to add advertisement services, or whatever is related to the means of promoting a forum, will be automatically sent to the Feedback Archive. We are NOT a promotion forum; we never have been, and I am in no way changing the focus of my forum. I don't have time to run an advertisement forum anyway as it requires too much work, nor do I have the desire to run one. Should I ban him if he keeps pestering me? I'm sick and tired of all the requests, because he KNOWS what our primary focus is, and it's not promotion.

Edit: This member said he was banned from here for being a jerk, and I think I can understand why. He is a downright pest and won't quit it with the feedback threads regarding forum services!

I would do a 24-48 hour ban/account disable personally to send a message to a problem member. From what I have seen, it usually stops the person from causing trouble for a little while.

Should I also make an announcement for those who could be thinking about following in this guys' footsteps. He created a thread yesterday or the day before too, and I actually feel like doing a permanent ban, because I'm sick of giving him the same answer that forum promotion is NOT our primary focus.

Edit: Or should I perhaps ban him from the feedback section? I don't know how to ban someone from a certain section, though.

As the forum administrator, if you aren't enjoying his presence, warn him, temporarily ban him, or just straight up remove him from the forum; Banishment. He or she shouldn't be on the forum if they are making it less fun for others on the forum.

I'm actually thinking of doing a perma-ban and reporting him to stopforumspam, as he just can't get it through his head. I'm sure Ashley.S. is probably getting tired of repeating himself as well.

I'd go with that actually. If you repeat yourself and they just aren't listening, especially if you've been forceful about it, they probably need to be removed. It's often a big hint when they are coming to your site from being banned from another reputable forum.

Go ahead and submit him to stopforumspam and ban him from the forum as he has basically been warned many times as well as banned here is a big sign that he is not needed/wanted on a forum.

What I'd do is simply set there permissions as guest for the feedback forum. Just go under the forum in ACP and special permissions, same you'd do for making someone a mod on one forum if i remember correctly.

Your forum isn't even for advertising, so I don't understand why he would even think they should be allowed to make a thread. You're the administrator and you can easily block their link or ban him or disallow him from making threads (ie. put him in a separate group which doesn't allow threads). You have many options so think which one is appropriate. If you already said "no advertising" and he repeatedly broken that rule, then why not remove him from your forum?

Well, it hasn't happened now, but I have made an announcement banning requests for forum services and stuff like that, as people do know what our forum is all about. Yes, we do help people through the forum discussions, sort of like here, but that doesn't make us a full-fledged advertisement forum. I think what'll have to happen is if he makes one more feedback thread begging us to add an advertisement service or anything related to forum promotion in general, I will take action as needed and the first plan of action will probably be to ban him from posting in the feedback section ever again The main reason I made an announcement was in case anyone else decided to try step down to his level. If all else fails, he will be on moderation queue as he knows full well what our forum is about. It's obvious that he has not read on promotion forums what CT is all about. We are a general discussion community, not a forum hybrid like the Hazey was, nor are we a Webmaster/General Chat forum.

Well they're either doing it in the PMs or you're daydreaming 🙂 I can only see 2 archived topics from him regarding promotion. It's not the whole wide world.

Care to share links if there's anymore topics?

If there are anymore requests being made, I will definetly share links.

So you stress over just two topics? Wow. 🙂 Nice way of owning a forum.

My members actually beg me to stop adding new features and working on the forum and just play more Brawl and enjoy my time there. 😀

Hey, he knows what my forum is about, and it is not about forum advertisement. It may be over just two topics, but it's those two topics that got me annoyed in a hurry. You wouldn't have been able to stand it either, Fluffybunny, this guy was just being outright annoying, which is what prompted me to create the announcement was to keep it from happening again. If it does happen again, you know actions will be taken accordingly. People are still free to make requests, just not requests regarding forum promotion features.

 Now there's a change. I don't think I've heard of ever being asked to STOP adding new features.
