So which forum software do you think that people prefer to use?
IPB or Xenforo?

I would be inclined to think it's probably around a 50/50 split of the population. I prefer Xenforo, personally.

Personally I prefer XenForo as it's easy to style and code for, but that's just me. It also has a lot of cool features out of the box.

I would say it really is a tie in this case. XF and IPB are probably the top two competitors at this point with vBulletin all but committing suicide. Either one is a great system. XF is cheaper, so that's largely why I chose it, but at the same time IPB is a lot more developed.

I personally like both and even though I first started with IPB 2.x and ran my other forum with 3.x for a while, XenForo has grown a place in my heart. I like the direction this software is going. I'd use both any day.

I feel the same way as Pandaa. 50/50 because you see both kinds of sites advertised equally all the time. But a flip of the coin reveals that more and more Xenforo ran forums being advertised more and more lately. But it's definitely a 50/50 with both sides.

As a user, I really don't care. Software makes no difference to me, I focus on the more important parts of a forum.

This is very important to consider.
Even communities with custom forum software have to make their main focus on the CONTENT. You won't have a very strong userbase if they're all there for the software of the community, or the design of the community, and not the actual content on the website.

I'll gladly join up with a forum on any software, really. I'm not 100% fussy myself. My opinion was more of a general one anyway.

I would consider that you can have a larger population with IP.B. While it still may take a little longer for more people to accept Xenforo.
