This really bugs me i am sick of joining forums that keep opening and closing just because the forum is not active enough for the admin.

You're describing yourself since this is exactly what you did with GD forum..and have the nerve to make such a statement  .

games is right. Administrators think their forum will get the best activity over night but that is so not true. Just drop it everyone and get back on topic.

Thank you. :great:

Is that you with Ninja Skills, ShadyX? 😛

Back on topic. @Games, you mean free host like Forumotion or a proper one like Byethost, x10hosting, etc?

Games moved from Zetaboards just like I did and I lost all my posts/topics and had to start again

I know when I chose general discussion as my genera of choice the first time around, that was seriously an over saturated genera. Heck, you could look on Google and there could be pages and pages of already active discussion forums! I think the reason why we're doing so well this time around is that while, yes this is still a popular genera, it's not as popular as it was this time two years ago. Plus I think what's helping me out is that I'm actually sticking to a forum for a change (ten months old tomorrow!)

i have done it once or twice but i have learned my lesson and most of my friends won't joinn my current forum as they think i will just shut it down agian (we are nearly 2 months old now). but ya fair enough if there new in the buisness of running forums but if they do it all the time then it's just silly and a waist of there money

The only times I've closed my forums have been when I've had trouble with the hosting and lost a lot of stuff. Which is why I've stuck with ZB with this forum; I know I don't have to worry about the hosting going down or losing anything.

I can understand that if your forum isn't growing, it can demotivate you a lot - but you just have to power through it! A forums not just going to explode in activity over night. 🙂

i opened a forum once and closed it within 2 days, beat that!

When has that ever been an achievement worthy of being proud of?
I wasnt taking it seriously, and it was when i first starting working with forums. It was a joke, jeez

I hate people doing this. I help their forum out and they think it's not enough so they close it down. :/ meh

Dude, that's not even an achievement to be proud of. I had a bad habit of opening and closing forums when I first started out, and to this day it's something I still regret, because that's thousands of members between 2008 and 2010 I could've lost out on. It's not a cool thing and many people can make enemies of others because of this. I know I had people whom I haven't gotten along with these last couple years because of my past experiences, and some are still reluctant to join my current forum because of my past experiences, and even those who have joined are reluctant to post for the same reason! They fear that they're going to be extremely active one day and I'll shut down the forum the next! Definitely not something to be proud of and I am trying to prove to people that I can keep a forum open longer than two weeks. I'd say I'm doing pretty well, this time, to be honest! Only once have I ever considered closing for good yet again, but thankfully my co-administrator has managed to talk me out of it, and I am thankful for that, because I know that if I closed this forum down, it would only be to start another one two weeks later, and I'm BREAKING that habit, not willing to get back into it, nor is it in my plans to get back into it.

Look, i was about 11, i didnt know how to run a forum well, it was a gaming forum hosted on a free host , and its the only one ive ever closed down in less than a week, and god, it was a joke 😡 .

Some joke. I was about 20 when I created my first forum, and it was on, of all hosts, Forumotion. Some people don't realize that running a forum is not a game. Yes, it is something you do for fun, as a hobby, but it's not a flat-out game. I didn't know didly-squat about running forums when I first started out and I just basically jumped in both feet first in the door instead of taking one day at a time and just going with my instincts. Instead of asking for advice, I'd often do things without thinking, and the end result always was me closing the forum because of some small stupid thing that wasn't worth getting worked up about.

I Wasnt taking it seriously, look, I closed it down simply because of virtually no members, few posts and the fact that i had just been hired to moderate another forum. Why would i put "beat that" when it annoys me too, if you really need smilies to prove it was a joke i will add

Sometimes when someone's bored and want to start a board,
They fail.

Well, if they're bored and want to start a forum, and they know they'll be committed to it, that's not exactly a fail. Especially if they plan on being committed to the site for quite sometime. However, opening a forum just for the sake of opening one, yeah, not a cool thing.

I hate people who do this, because they never seem to learn from their mistakes. If you intend to run the same type of forum in the same genre, at least wait a little bit and see what experience and knowledge you can gain. People tend to think that making a forum is easy, when in reality, unless you're blessed with a great team and great luck, you don't build a huge and successful board overnight.
Oh yes we did. 😉
