Well, maybe they thought you'd never found out so there is still a chance. Sorry to hear that happened. I hope it gets solved in a good way. 🙁

They came and advertised on Mario Forums, pretty sure they know I know. 😛

Anyway, this turned out to be someone trying to get back at me for using their secret santa idea. I'd actually been planning it for over a month before they announced it and I just happened to announce it a few hours after them. I don't think they have any plans to do anything with it.

Well, Crisis Averted. I guess then it is time to take it with humour.

Secret Santa is not a new concept for Xmas activities in forums, hahah. xD

Call me stupid, but what is a DMCA?
Its basically something that gives you the power to demand removal of anything that infringes copyright on the web 🙂

But it does cost 100 dollars no?

A high price to have such power.

what cost? registering in DMCA? I thought it was free (except for jurisdictional results...) 😕

Welll, a DMCA warning is kind of like saying take it down or I'll get the DMCA to do it for me. Which is what most people do, sending a DMCA does cost a small amount I think (not $100) but most "infringers" will take the content down before a DMCA needs to be sent. When Most people say they are sending a DMCA, they are just sending a DMCA warning.

It's never happened to me, but it does sound annoying. Although, with me... I just like to join forums... and if there is another one with the same niche... I think I would join anyways, because I just like to talk about those topics.

Although one time, I made a forum that was similar to my friend's forum, because I didn't like some of the rules he had. I had planned to make this forum for a while at the time, so I made it and added a few features that his had.
He was very angry at me; although we made up eventually.
But it wasn't an exact copy as mentioned above, It had it's own name, a different forum hoster.. it just had some similar features.

Hah, this topic.

Recently, my community was split (more like moved) to another forum with the sole purpose of "like nukia but without nuke".

I'm not even kidding.

My entire community just got up and moved because some guys didn't like me.

Which resulted in a group mentality (plus some banned members pressuring) emerging which essentially ended Ekunia.

They didn't really copy Ekunia, though.

They were too lazy to even do that.

But you know what? If they really think that they're so much better off without me, then I don't need them.

One has already earned a ban for public cursing out of an administrator in the announcements area anyway.

I was copied this summer. I contacted the Abuse staff. I also posted a topic about it on my forum and included the link and posted the stuff I noticed right off the bat. I was pissed off and didn't even notice the other content they tried to rip as well, but the members of my forum did.

These are the guest viewable sections of my forum, they would be the only areas that could be copied.

These were the sections on their forum.

They also copied my rules, the ones I've had since I was on Proboards.

I posted a notice in red inside the banner space for the IPB default skin and apologized to the guests for the default skin explained the situation.

Dear visitors, I apologize for the default skin, but in lieu of the fact that someone, a fellow X member and Y.com user has plagiarized content from this forum, I have decided to turn off guest viewing and disallowed new registrations, pending an official investigation from the Y.com Abuse Dept. I have submitted an Abuse report, as well as proof of said plagiarism and so I hope that this is rectified as soon as possible. I've worked very hard on this forum over the years, and it is a direct result of my OWN work. TC didn't get to where it is overnight, it took years (2004-present) of work and constant improvements and putting forth an honest effort to being original and then maintaining it, to get where it is now and I did NOT have to resort to stealing from or copying anyone. I do NOT appreciate being ripped off by someone who is too lazy to put in the work on their own forum. Consequently, I've had no choice but to limit this person's access to my forum. I am sure that any other admin in my position would understand this, and I hope that you do too. Thank you for visiting, and I apologize for the inconvenience and hope that you do understand.

I checked their forum and saw this moments later.

Sorry but this board is currently unavailable.

Ironically enough the person came back to copy some more and I banned them. I guess they saw my notice, got spooked and turned their forum offline.

By that time, I knew who it was, and I banned them from the forum.

And because this person came from another advertising service I use, I warned other administrators of her actions and told them that they should be on the look out since she likes to steal content.

Those who say that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, has never run a forum.
