Have you ever had people sign up on your forum and then in the same day they ask to be a moderator?

Its happened more times than I can count. I usually ignore the PM's and dont answer. I dont understand why people do that.

We had one do it Yesterday Travis on FA, I dealt with it ~smile~

Funny you should start this topic. There was a recent post on the phpBB blog about how to choose your Moderators. It's a very good article, i would definitely recommend it to any Administrator here -> http://www.phpbb.com/blog/2008/07/22/ch ... rs/#more-9

I've had members contact me on MSN prior to a forum opening asking to be on the Staff, even the occasional member asking to be an Administrator.

As the article says, Moderators contribute to how guests and other members reflect on the board, so i would never recruit a moderator with less than say 500 posts.

~smile~

Yep, but not by PM

People are pretty stupid if they think thought after 1 day and probably hardly any posts @ a forum like forum advertizer, they're gonna become mod.

You should have seen the guy on my forums.. He does a sig request without permission, and all he does is crop out the image, and adds text. And asks to be a mod for being a professional sig maker. 😛

Bit irrelevant to that, but i had a mod who abused his powers and was cocky like that.

I have had people ask me to be mod many time through PM on this forum and on others aswell as on MSN.

We have had a few people ask to be admins also including someone who was pretending to be Jackal from freeforums.org although the idiot used an english IP address which made it obvious it wasn't Jackal... also the fact he change his email to jackals after signing up which had shown his old and new email in the user logs -lol-

People aren't going to just become admin. Some people are so stupid.

I had this so much. I made once a forum and a lot of real life friends joined up and they all wanted to be moderator, I ended up promoting 3 of them which was unnecessary.

Why did you do it then?

Don't make people Moderators just to keep them active. If they were actually interested in being a loyal member to your forum, they would still post despite being objected as a moderator ~wink~

I sack bad staff if they are inactive, seeing as they aren't showing any loyalty.

I've had a few people ask for this over PM. Some of them were actually asking on this forum. ~lol~

Remember everyone, it's important to recognise the difference between offering to be a Moderator, and asking to be one.

A few times some people have offered by saying things like "If you would like a hand with Moderation etc, just let me know".

A lot of people seem to think they're the same thing ~razz~

Yeah, a lot of people think that it's the same.

I don't mind offering, but asking can be annoying.

Definitely, asking to be staff is rude. But offering with the intention of helping out is more than ok. It shows the admin that you're interested in the site, and want to contribute ~smile~
