People who sign up and instantly ask to be a moderator

I have offering to be a techie on a site i just signed up to and within 24 hours i was admin ~eeeek~

Umm, don't think I've asked to be a mod on any forum other than this one. I PM'ed Fowler several several months ago I think

I'm the same way, I've never asked or applied modship, it's always offered to me, sadly i can't take all offers.

Some people just join a good active forum, and they immediately want to be on the team. Never a good idea to hire them.

It's good to wait and see which members are more dedicated to the forum, and show promise as a MOD and active member.

Ugh, 2 people just asked to be a moderator on my Futurama forum today. One of them is 10 years old

I know some 10 year olds who are really mature for their age. Shouldn't judge by age. 😛

No, you shouldn't , but a 10 year old immediately seeking a MOD title, that's just asking for disaster.

It has happened to me alot. People sign up, and see the thread "Staff needed", and dont bother to look at the post count required or how long you must be a member to be able to apply.

I don't care, I'm not having a 10 year old moderate my forum...mature or not. Plus he said he's mod of 15 other boards which he really shouldn't have told me because now I'm definately not making him a mod lol.

I've had a 13 year old moderator on my forum, he couldnt type coorect sentences, and he didnt understand what I was saying. I fired him after a couple weeks..

What annoys me is, they will actually get to that post count that is required to apply, and then they ask, but when you look back on there posts, there all spam.

I dont really care how old a moderator is, if they can get the job done correctly, and act right then I'm fine with it. But a 10 year old moderator is not right. If you have a good forum, you need skills, unless that 10 year old kid stays in his or her room all day and night on the computer.

It is crazy that a 10 year old would ask to be a moderator on a forum. It's even worse when they mention that they are a moderator on a bunch of other sites.
I was browsing a forum a few weeks ago, and there was a topic to apply for the position. There was actually a 10 year old asking to be a moderator, and he said he was a moderator on seven forums.
Why on Earth would you include something like that in your resume? ~lol~

Hell yes i have.
As soon as i make a forum and advertise it i always get at least one person pming me asking to be staff. They really annoy me because seening ive just opened the forum i dont need staff because its a small forum.

Also, A ten year old can get you into trouble. COPPA violations. You have to get a signed letter from his parents saying he be a member of your forums.

That's not an issue if the server is hosted outside the US. ~wink~ (Offshore hosting is always best. ~cheesey_grin~ )

Unfortunately though, violation of COPPA isn't really a prosecutable offense. I wouldn't imagine the child's parents taking Cloverfield to court for letting him post on the forum ~lol~

phpBB may as well remove the COPPA information, because nobody looks at it anyway. We've even had 12 year olds sign up and be staff here ~eeeek~ - not that they do their job badly or anything.

Well I was just saying. Anything is possible. Let me make up a hypothetical scenario: Say an overprotective parent found that their son or daughter was on a forum and they didnt like what was being said or what was said to their little boy or girl. Then they find out that the forum knew about their son or daughters age and didnt try to get parent approval. If the parent was upset enough and wanted to contact authorities, hosts and whatnot then actions might be taken.
