Okay, do you think people with disabilities like ADHD and the like should even be allowed on forums? I'm saying this because I have ADHD and yet I'm still being bashed upon because of my past experiences as a forum owner. I believe that bygones should be bygones and people should just move on with their lives and just leave those of us with disabilities alone. I don't bash other people who have a hard time keeping a forum open, and I do not expect the same kind of treatment being brought back at me. I keep opening and closing forums because I do have an attention disorder, however, that does not stop me from trying to do what I want to do. Have you ever heard the saying, "walk a mile in my shoes"? Well, if you have, then you should at least be able to understand what those of us with ADHD go through, especially when it comes to runnign a forum in the long term. I don't look down on people who have a tough time keeping a forum open for longer than two weeks, and I don't expect the same kind of treatment on me either. And yes, I really do have ADHD, which is why I have a hard time keeping up with a forum. I'm not doing this post just to be stupid and gain sympathy from you guys, I'm writing the truth.

Back on topic: I really do feel that we with ADHD are capable of coming out with forums. Sure, we might not always be able to keep them open half the time, we may even come out with stupid excuses and what-not, but we do try. So I say yes, that people with disabilities can produce good forums as well as someone who is totally healthy, even if they DO have a tough time keeping them open. But even though that may be the case, that's no reason to go and say, "oh, jeeze, not another forum from you... I'm sick of this already".

I personally think that people with disabilities are just as equal to people without with regards to using the internet. As for ADHD, concentration may be lacking but you usually find that these sufferers have far more active minds and imaginations, so when the focus is there, the product can be 10 times better than average.

See, I think that's my case personally: I have ADHD, and yet I've always wanted to give running a forum a go. I believe in letting bygones be bygones, and not pointing fingers at those who have tried running forums multiple times like I have. For me, the motivation is there, but in the end it's just keeping up with it is the hard part.

Would it not help if you were to set up your ideal forum and have a couple of very close and reliable friends help you to run it, so that on the days when you can't focus they can carry it for you until such days when you get back on track?

I'd like to, but I don't know who all I can trust on the Internet anymore, as all too many people dislike me because of my past experiences as a forum owner. I'm also tired of all the rude comments I've recieved over the years as well. If people would just put themselves in my shoes, then they'd know how I feel or what I've been going through. I do have the forum set up, we've been open since July 13, and I want to be able to actually keep the forum open and not get tired of it 2-6 months later.

There is a couple people in my family with ADHD. Even my brother has it. They seem to lead productive lives, have friends, a job, children, etc etc.. They wont even admit that they have a "disability" and try to use it to their advantage in gaining sympathy and/or special treatment from others. As far as I know people with this disorder have a lot of energy and while they can lack focus and concentration at times, they are people just like you and me.. We all have our problems.
There is far more devastatingly debilitating disorders out there in the world.

Well, I do lead a productive life despite my own ADHD and other disabilities I have. I do have a job, and while it's not something I really enjoy, I have been there 13 months in August. But my point is, I'm not even trying to gain sympathy for my own advantage. I could create hundreds of forums in one day and I still could care less whether one person joins up or 1 million. A forum is just that... a forum. It's just something that one does for a hobby, like I do. The dream and the drive to run a successful forum are there, and I obviously know what genera I want to do becuase it's the kind of forum which I enjoy, hence why I keep making them. I'll have to probably hire a couple staffers and if I end up losing interest, I'll probably just be MIA until I gain interest again. There's so much that I need to learn despite my almost 2 year experience it's not even funny. I don't expect special treatment from anybody on a forum, and on my forum, whether you have a disibility or not, you still get treated like any other member. Sure, my ideas might not always be up to scratch half the time, but you seriously can't blame me or anyone else with a disability for trying.

BTW I was not referring to you or what you do on forums in anyway, I was just making a statement based on my own personal experiences with people who have ADHD. 🙂

Yeah, I reread your post and I was kind of figuring that. I was just saying.
