What percentage would you say your forum is that's organic, in that members lead the way with threads and posts and not relying on outside exchanges or posting packages?

Honestly is a slim number. I mainly rely on post exchanges, but this is fine IMO. I just enjoy having a few communities where I can talk with likeminded individuals and don't have to worry about overbearing moderation.

At the moment I would say that the percentage of organic traffic on forums I own or help run is quite low. It is a shame that even though forums are staying alive, they struggle in terms of organic traffic.

At this time, AAF only has one paid poster. He posts even when I'm not paying him. So, at least 90% of the content is currently organic.

I really don't know how to calculate this. Because even the first post or thread could be paid, the conversation continues organically in 99% of cases (my observation in my forum)

I keep observing the same pattern. When users are paid per post, their goal is to make the post count go up, paying less attention to the content and more attention to the post count.

Paying per word. Users tend to make more enriched posts and are less focused on the post count. If a post just requires a simple response, there is no pressure, they earn accordingly based on their efforts. Longer posts/more efforts they earn more. Short posts/less efforts, they earn less.

My observation, by using pay per word adds a level of organic/natural posting/content.

Those opposed to see paid posting as organic. I invite you to see from this point of view:
When you have a regular job, you are been paid, but when you perform your activities, don't you do it to the best of your
capacity, with enthusiasm? If you don't, then is not a problem of money, it's a problem of attitude.

The same happens with paid posters, it's not about paid or free posters(aka organic), it's a matter of the attitude of your users.
Many times I whish not to have some free/organic posters if they have the wrong attitude in the community.

My summary... From my point of view, it doesn't matter if they are paid or free(organic) As long as their content adds value and have their attitude aligned with the community's goal/purpose it's all what I care.

I have decent organic traffic but my activities are not organic. I get posts through post exchange, posting packages form webmaster forums, and paid posters.
