petition: stop dsm5 changes to aspergers

Big words for this forum so I will explain

DSM - basically the bible of neurological disorders. 5 is the next version.

So they are removing Aspergers, a form of Autism, from the DSM, and his petition is to stop such.

I thought they were simply removing the title and instead calling it a mild form of autism, which as far as I'm aware is the case.

Didn't sign as I don't know the specifics all that well, what makes this change so negative?

In my opinion the change is probably the least of the DSM-V's problems. From the sounds of what I’ve been reading, they’re just moving Aspergers to include it under Autism, which actually makes sense. If you read the DSM-IV-TR and look at the criteria for each, you'll see that Aspergers is a mild form of Autism. They don’t even seem to be talking about getting rid of it completely, just making it a sub-diagnosis or classifying the disorder differently, so I, personally, don’t see a need for a petition on this--especially because there are some other diagnoses being added/changed/omitted that shouldn’t be.

Also, if you don’t understand what a petition is about, you really shouldn’t sign it. Just my two cents.
