The phpBB Development and Management Teams met in Cologne, Germany last week for 4 days of exciting brainstorming and coding.

We discussed future phpBB releases and worked on phpBB 3.0.6. Our plans for 3.0.6 have previously been discussed on this blog, but we decided to add even more. One feature we decided upon and implemented during the meeting was PM reports. This feature allows users to report private messages to moderators just like posts. A reported private message will then appear in a new MCP module so moderators can read the message and act upon it. This is particularly useful for users who want to report spam PMs.

This is brilliant news to any forum owner. In the past here at FP we've had to rely on users forwarding spam messages to us, and sometimes they'd be reluctant to do so. Additionally we ran the risk of the PM being modified by the user who forwarded it. Now we have a solution. 😀

I saw that feature was added in the changelog a few days ago... It will be a good feature. Especially for us.

Ya there is point, they no longer rely on members to forward spam messages but simply press one fast button. Big forums always get some kind of bad people so this is a neccesity in my eyes

Hurray, phpBB has added something that all the other scripts have been having for years. Have they added Quick Reply to the default installation yet?

Finally phpbb catches up.

That's not a very logical way of looking at it. Arguably you could say phpBB has the best permissions system in the industry, does that mean when the others improve their permissions they're catching up too?

Well, no point of it anyway

Big point. No more having to disable the private message system on extremely large forums.

Actually, you can't. You might prefer phpBB's permissions, while I probably prefer something else. That's opinion.

Having a certain feature though, like "Report PM," which is clearly a common feature that almost every other software already has, is different.

I'm just laughing at how phpBB never had this feature all this time.

Well I a laughing that the others didn't catch up to phpbb! Phpbb has a awesome GUI format, it has awesome stability and flexability and it doesn't feel like you are forced to make a board for a company, it can be so versital at times when you want it to be. There is a great list of mods and more! so while other companys are out twiddling their fingers PHPBB made on of the best and highest rated board software in the world.

I would think something so small as a report pm button is easily over looked when you have to edit 1000+ scripts and make sure there even is a PM system! There are many features PHPBB has that the others do not, just because there is no report pm doesn't mean that any other software is better.

It is a button. Get over it, if you are starting a fight with an administrator over a report PM button then you need to go outside, get some air, and come back when you got some sense. Ok? ok.
