Well I'm gonna create a forum soon, have decided on the niche and all, but would like to ask you all which script I should go with? It has to be an open source one of course.
So please I'd appreciate all the input you can have on this. Plugins, support, or just the feel of it.

I think it's a personal choice. I myself go with phpbb, becuase Iike it overall.

Okay I am also into phpBB this time, as I've not worked with this much. Always up for learning more.

I would recommend Mybb unless you have hours to spend implementing phpbb mods.

Is it really that hard and takes that long? I'm asking because I've never used it before.
But I have used Mybb.

Yes, it could take few hours to implement a large number of mods. But once done, it will worth it.

And when you change themes, you have to edit everything all over again. What can't Mybb do that phpbb can?

I'm not so good at technical details so I find MyBB easier to use compared to phpBB. One of the features I like in MyBB is being able to edit usergroup name in ACP, instead of at your FTP for phpBB. As for mods, it depends on how much you want to customize your forum. If you don't need too many or too complicated mods, phpBB is a good choice too. Many people will say I'm wrong but I think I see more pretty free themes for phpBB compared to MyBB, lol.

Yes, I would like to see someone answering this question.

O_O, that's bad. Its like either you're stuck with one theme forever, or every now and then your forum goes offline so you could work it all over again. That really sucks, poor from phpBB.

Phpbb has automod, to automatically install mods. 99% of the time mods install perfectly, and theres the occasional time where you may have to edit a couple of lines of code (copy & paste). You can also auto install mods to a new theme with automod.

I feel phpbb mods are better than their mybb equivelent. Phpbb's admin pannel Is also more simple and easy to use.

Phpbb also are great at giving help and support, if you ever happen to need it.

Try each software for yourself, and find the one you like. 🙂

Only reason I haven't used phpBB is I always had to manually install mods. (Obviously unless you installed that .MOD or AutoX(?))

@Sam, The only thing I loved about phpBB was the individual permissions of users and adding ranks to users individually. Which I don't think MyBB nor SMF can do.

Sad that phpBB, MyBB, and SMF development has severely slowed down.

One thing that favours phpBB is the better styles than mybb, but installations of mods lets it down. Why bother so much headache when you can do it with a a couple of clicks in mybb. So I'm thinking of going with mybb now.
BTW till yesterday, I was with phpbb.
