Hey, I've been thinking of changing from phpBB3 over to Vanilla Forums recently and I'd like an opinion from some people here as to wether I change or not. Vanilla Forums don't seem to have as many functions as phpBB but the fundamental thing to consider is it's still a forum where people can talk.

Should I change my forum to Vanilla Forums? What do you think, is it a good move?

Personally i wouldn't. At the end of the day, go with what you think is best. You will be using it alot more then other people and you will be using more of what it offers then the users will. Try it out and see what you prefer.

Thanks, I asked this over at Vanilla and the first answer I got was this so it makes sense to wait a little longer and see if it gets updated with more things later on.

I wouldn't switch to vanilla forums..

I would either stick with phpbb or go to something better like mybb smf or ipb.

I wouldn't switch to that either. I'd stick with PHPBB. Reason being it reminds me of an old message board I used to frequent, which we're just drop-down topics kind of thing with replies underneath. Not very organized-looking in my opinion. So I'll gladly take PHPBB anyday. Quick Edit: I just checked out your forum and I like the looks of it the way it is. I'd keep it on PHPBB mate.

I actually like Vanilla - it's very clean looking, and the backend is nowhere near as complex as other forum software. The only complaint I have is the lack of BBcode. Textile just confuses me at times. =/ All the same, I feel it has just gotten a bad rap for being different. After you use it for a while, you prefer it really.

If you feel your forum is better off in Vanilla over phpBB, then the question is, why not? Have you extensively used it to the point where you feel like it will work for you?

I actually agree as well 😀

I would just suggest staying on phpbb, because there are less mods on Vanilla at the moment and would be kind of hard moving if Vanilla does not have a Converter.

I say go with Vanilla. I used them before and it is just amazing, do it :great:

Yeah, I'v been messing around with their system, and to be honest it seems much better than phpBB the only downfall is the add-ons and such as limited it seems on their official website. But it also seems is enough to write your own if needed.

I've had a look at VanillaForums, and I don't really like what I see. However I would stick with phpBB if I were you, because of the fact that there isn't much on Vanillia addon wise in order to help make your forum unique.
