my forum is run by phpbb but with freeofurms.org a free host. i want to make my own host but i dont know how to donwload it then upload it and all the other complicated things. could somone with ther own phpbb own host tell me how to do it. thanks guys i hope you understand. -razz-
You would need to pay for a backup of the db for your forum. Once you have the db you will then need to upload it to a php/mysql host and then download and upload the phpBB core files from here - http://phpbb.com/
You will lose any mods you have at freeforums.org though.
Personally, I found it difficult my first time (mind you...who didn't have trouble installing their first php application).
It's worth mentioning if you're serious about your forum you'll have to pay a few pounds every month for hosting, as you can never really trust free web hosts. Once you've got hosting you need to install phpBB (by creaing a MySQL database, uploading the phpBB files and linking them both together).
When are you looking at making the move? I've been meaning to make a clear tutorial for beginners you see. Might crack on with that today.
Actually, Subz, I would recommend moving now if he's going to do it. Best to have some downtime during the transfer now than later when theres people wanting the site.
There are many tutorials on Youtube about installing phpBB on a webhost, that's what I used my first time. With that tutorial I actually didn't have any trouble at all, minus one small mistake I made (I typed in the password different the second time and it didn't match ~lol~ ).
There may be some people willing to do it for you as well, but make sure you trust them completely before giving them access ~wink~
