How do you download mods on phpbb?

Here is an example:

Go here: http://www.phpbb.com/customise/db/modifications-1/

Choose your MOD: http://www.phpbb.com/customise/db/mod/t ... file_link/

That is just an example MOD. Underneath the screenshot on the right there is a green download box. Once clicked, you should be able to start downloading.

I know how to download it from the website but how do you download it onto the forum?

You have to upload any required files to your forum, either by FTP or using cPanel's online file uploader. After that, most phpBB MODs require file edits, so once they are completed, overwrite the original file.

Backup your forum and files before doing this.

No, if you have FTP access you can use a programme such as FileZilla to upload the files.

Once you extract the mod, inside the folder(s) there should be a file called "install.xml" or something along those lines, just open it and follow the simple steps.

Does it have to be a cpanel forum to download mods?

The hosting control panel can be anything, cPanel was used as an example. You don't even need a control panel if you're a real badass.

First to make it easier you will need to install automod! Look at the second page of the phpBB community announcements forum.

Nope automod is a horrible way to go stay away from it. When you download the mod, extract the files and open install.xml then follow those instructions.
