Hi guys , came to know that phpbb3 3.0.7 was released just yesterday . They suggest that we upgrade to it ; but the 3.0.6 had a serious bug with the ACP , had to do some modifications in the code . I fear there would be lots of bugs in this newer version too . So , I wanted to know if anyone is going for the upgrade ?
I've heard that 3.0.7 isn't any different from 3.0.6. I'm not changing unless they make some serious changes to the software. Also, we put too much work into our site, plus we just recently got hacked, so it's too much trouble to change at the moment.
Now can you please tell me how to remove that message . It keeps coming up each time I login to my ACP . It makes me feel some kinda uncomfortable ... :shake:
The error in the acp was only occurring on certain set ups. It was caused by mod security being improperly configured on some hosts and causing an issue for some people (we never got affected by it)
phpBB3.0.7 is mearly a bug fix. phpBB3.0.6 introduces many new features and this release fixes all the bugs in those new features and any new ones found in other parts of the script. It is always good to update. phpBB 3.0.7 will not have more bugs then phpBB3.0.6. If you get behind on updates, it will be hard to catch up when if/when a major security release comes out or when there is a new feature update you want to upgrade to.
I upgraded the FP test forum (highly modded) and did the update in 3 or 4 minutes. I am just needing to do the template edits and then i will do this main forum. This was the easiest phpBB3 update i think i have ever done.
You would have to edit it out of the template although really there is no point going to those lengths to remove it. For the time it takes to edit it out, you would have near enough updated your forum to the latest release.
I'm waiting for the release of MyBB 1.6 thank you very much.
Hmm, just read the announcement post. Interesting. I almost always update my forum as soon as a new version is released. It helps a lot when asking for support and doesn't take that long anyway.
Well, now my co-administrator wants to update everything, and I gotta admit, I guess I would feel better if it was more "Modern" so to speak, so I'll let him update. I think we'd have to do it sooner or later anyways.
I'm not going to update just yet, I have a style in the making at the moment and I don't want to add in extra stress by updating while making. It is more harder for stylers like me the MOD authors. With MODs it's just code but with styles you have to make sure every style edit works and looks right.
Just a note to the author, I highly doubt that they would have a bug in 3.0.7 that is critical needing an emergency update.
To everyone... update if you are not in the middle of something, and to The Hat Tipper, why not if you just updated, update now and fix a bug if there is one, effectively, your just prolonging the time till your forum may break 😉
Updates may be a pain in the backside, but I always rather be up to date than fall behind on security... it's common for developers to toss in security patches with a "bug fix" release, whether they admit it or not. I can't be bothered to check and see if it's the case, but chances are with the addition on new features there will be some sort of security patches before too long.
