Phpbb3 coding question.

If the .zip file has an install folder but my root doesn't do I create one?

Also, how do you know what your theme is based off of? (Prosilver, subsilver2, etc.?) Because most only come with the template edits for subsilver and prosilver.

If you have installed your forum (in other words if you can post and login and generally see the forum) then you don't need the install directory.

An easy was to tell is by the number of stylesheets that style has. Subsilver styles only have a couple while prosilver styles have more. If you post a link to the style you want to know about, i can tell you if it is subsilver or prosilver based.

I looked and it says Subsilver2 but when I llok for the file edits in the file it's telling me ot edit, it can't find it. Are subsilver 2 and subsilver the same?

Subsilver was the default style on phpBB2. Subsilver2 to is one of the default styles on phpBB3. As phpBB2 is no longer supported, people tend to just call subsilver 2 subsilver as people usually know they mean subsilver2.

Some mods don't support subsilver based styles and most that do store the template edits in a different folder. You might see a subsilver2.xml file. That will contain the instructions for subsilver based styles.

Hang on, I think I found how to add the modules in.

Once installed, the Announcement Centre module needs to be added in the ACP.
You can do this as follows:
a) Go to System in the ACP
b) Go To Administration Control Panel under Module Management
c) Go to .MODs
d) Go to the Add Module button
e) Type in ACP Announcement Centre and click on Add New Module
f) Make sure you create ACP Announcement Centre as a new Category and enable it
g Click on the ACP Announcement Centre category
h) Go to the dropdown next to the Add Module button
i) Click on Announcement Centre in the dropdown
j) Click on the Add Module button next to the drop down
k) Once added, you need to click on the Enable link next to it
l) The enable should turn into disable
m) Click General

Newer administrators are often a wee bit nervous when it comes to banning. Once forums take off and banning becomes an everyday occurrence, we tend to loosen up. 🙂
