Phpbb3 MODs Help...

Okay... How exactly do you "MOD?" 😛

I heard Visual Studio or something, was good for Mods?

Download a MOD and there will be a doc called "install.html".

Open that up, and follow the directions. You must have access to FTP and SQL to do most MODs.

If there are any particular ones, you could probably find someone you trust to install them.

Yes, I know. But, the thing I was trying to figure out, is if I needed to Upload the files that came with the Mod to my site..?

Follow the install directions. They will tell you which files to upload and where to upload them to.

If there is an images folder, the files in there most likely need uploading to the images folder on your FTP. If there is a skins folder, the files in there get uploaded to the skins folder on your FTP, and so on. The files are usually in the folders they need to be uploaded to.

Images > Images
Skins > Skins
Language > Language

You get what I mean?

And, do I download the files that need editing from my Site? Or can I edit the ones that came with the PbPbb3 download, and then just "ReUpload" them?

You can do both, they'll both work, however if you've got modified versions of the phpBB installation on your servers, such as exisiting mods and you update the fresh ones you downloaded from phpbb.com then they won't be there and can cause a few conflicts. If anything it's best to download them from your site, most of them are under 1mb anyway.

Just tried to install the Rep mod.. I messed up everything.. 😛

Remember to always back up your files. There are some sites which offer modification installation for their members. That would be something you might want to look into with the more advanced modifications.

My best advice to you is start practicing installing easy modifications and work your way to the more advanced - and always learn from your mistakes. Soon enough, you'll get the hang of it 😉 Good luck!

reputation is not easy, as it's still in developement, I had to try 3 times before I could install the rep mod sucsessfully 😉

I don't really need the Rep mod right now. But I'd like to have it. What I really need is the Cash Mod. 🙂
