phpBB4?

Don't hold your breath, it wont be out for a long time yet. You can see what they are talking about over at area51 though, some nice new features look like being added.

phpBB 3.1 will be released before phpBB4. phpBB3.1 should be end of this year/start of next year in some form from what i have seen.
 
Not unless phpBB want there to be. There was no phpBB 2.1 or phpBB 2.2 etc. There was only phpBB 2.0.x then it went to phpBB3.0.x
 
I think phpBB 3.1 is going to be a real pain for some developers and designers. Apparently 3.1 will have a lot of different stuff on it making a lot of MODs break, which for FP is bad as most MODs on FP are old and very buggy.

Lets hope there will be a easy way to port mods 🙂
 
my guess when 3.1 comes out there is going to be a lot of people doing a lot of testing with mods and no mods before they update
 
I'm with death on this, a few years I would give it, being that there was a few years in between 2 and 3.
 
I hope by phpBB4 they have it where you do not have to add any code yourself for mods. (it'd make it easier for the people who don't know how etc)
