Hey gang.

For one of my niche forums that has seen less than ideal growth, I am thinking of pivoting to a blog/newsletter platform. So a few questions!

1. Has anyone else done this, if so, any feedback?
2. Is this a good idea of bad idea (aged domain, very little backlinks)
3. Cost is cheaper than running a forum (licensing, hosting, etc).

If the forum is inactive, try it.

I have a hiking forum. It has maybe 150 members. I have a hiking newsletter. It has over 3,000 subscribers.

Take your forum domain and make it your newsletter landing page for the time being. That will help you take advantage of your aged domain with some backlinks until you decide to get a different domain for your landing page if that is your plan.

But like a forum, a newsletter is only going to be successful if you provide enough pain point solving value to the subscriber to keep them reading.

If you ever need newsletter advice, let me know, I'll gladly help! 🙂

Personally, I think pivoting can be a good idea. An aged domain still has value even if it doesn’t have many backlinks, and switching to a blog or newsletter lets you control the content instead of relying on members to create it. It can also slowly build traffic again if the posts are useful or niche.
