Piwik is a downloadable, Free (GPL licensed) web analytics software platform. It provides detailed reports on your website and its visitors, including the search engines and keywords they used, the language they speak, which pages they like, the files they download and so much more. Piwik aims to be an open source alternative to Google Analytics. One of the principle advantages of Piwik is that you are in control. Unlike remote-hosted services (such as Google Analytics), you host Piwik on your own server and the data is tracked inside your Mysql database. Because Piwik is installed on your server, you enjoy full control over your data.

I personally use and only use Piwik now for my analytics collecting. I like how those that don't want their visits to be tracked will not count by default (unless you want to count them against their request) and how there are so many different types of reports one can generate from such usage. I also think it's more accurate since it's on your actual server and can grab more information than Google can due to laws and various restrictions against big data gathering.
