You heard it right...

Communications firms are being asked to record all internet contacts between people as part of a modernisation in UK police surveillance tactics.

The home secretary scrapped plans for a database but wants details to be held and organised for security services.
The new system would track all e-mails, phone calls and internet use, including visits to social network sites.
Ministers say police need new tools to fight crime but opposition MPs and campaigners have raised privacy fears.

What do you make of this? A good call to increase security? Or a massive invasion of privacy?

You decide. Discuss.

I'd agree if they had a tip off or something but monitoring what ever we do is increasing the chance of UK becoming 'Big Brother' as a whole, the viewers will be watched more than the people in the actual tv series itself.

Bad move government, bad move. Shows how bored they are.

Guess UK people will have to rent their porn from the video stores from now on. -lol-
just kidding. -razz-

Good thing I don't live in the U.K., or you'd all know about my many conversations with Fidel Castro about a massive U.S. invasion.

Seriously, though, this is ridiculous. I guess it's not enough that they are able to listen to our telephone conversations. Before you know it, the government will have to create devices that listen to your thoughts because "they need them to fight crime." xP

It does make me laugh, i'm not going to stop viewing my porn, they can watch it also if they want i dont mind. -lol-

Negative.

Not going to happen as much as they try.

VPN services will become more popular hosted in other countries where their laws don't happen to apply, and bam, nothing they can do.

Worst case, we open a VPN in orbit (space servers anyone?) ~cool~

I'd laugh when this goes into effect and they hire several hundred hackers to the gov computer team (they catch you hacking, and then force you to work for them). I'd turn them down, rather serve time than serve under them.

That being said, doubt many of us will be caught in the act. Takes a lot to nail a hacker, and with the unlimited supply of proxy's, VPS services, fake email hosts, ect, It'll be very hard.

Chrisitan, you better stop going to those bad sites. You never know if your mom is watching now. ~smile~
I'm sure the FBI already know about most of his favorite sites, there really isn't a need to follow him around ~lol~

Seriously though guys, if put into effect it would be bypassed within a hour ~cool~

We know his favourite sites, i mean he mentioned "they bum" in a sentence. Who knows what he has been watching.

I say the government want this to appear like it is privacy protection but they probably going to keep records of what IPs do what.

But seriously, keeping tabs on millions of peoples internet logs etc, they are gona have to have a crap load of staff to keep up with it all.

Imagine the lagg if they have to transfer our request to their server from the ISP and then back to the internet back to them and back to our ISP who send it back to us. Well That's how I imagine they would do it. -n-
