As it hasn't been long enough, the PSN has finally begun to find it's way back into it's user's homes.

Thank you for your patience and encouragement over the last few weeks. As covered in the post from earlier today, you can now update the firmware on your PS3 and change your password. Kazuo Hirai just announced that we have begun the phased restoration by region of some of the services, starting with online multiplayer functionality.

Please note that these services will take a bit of time to be turned on and rolled out to the whole country. The process has begun and some states are being turned on now, so please be patient as we reach your city and state. We’ll be updating the map below as service comes online in individual states. It will take several hours to restore PSN throughout the entire country, so please keep checking back for the latest updates. In the meantime, now’s a great time to get your PS3’s firmware updated, which is required to get online.

Official blog post is located here.

I've heard many things about the PSN giving out things to the user's as a gift for their waiting, but how many of you are really excited for this?

I don't have PSN, but I would be still worry because what if it gets hacked again.

Eh, just hope it stays up. Not expecting anything since I didn't make a PSN account before it went down.

I've heard things like they are giving away every customer 30 days of playstation plus for free. Also the privileged of downloading any 1 game from their shop for free.

Well I created my PSN account today so I wonder if I get the same privilege (Should be considering it's been down for 100% of the time I owned it 😛)

If I do I'll get quest for booty definitely.

Well I was playing online for a bit today, the store is still down but the online works fine. Store should be up sometime next week.

Couldn't connect today, in FL here. Might "rent" a game from gamestop like SOCOM 4 to see if online works or not since I dont have any multiplayer titles right now.

It went out for a bit yesterday because there was a massive overload of people changing their passwords (or so I heard), but it came back up after not too long.

Anyway, here's what us North Americans will be getting as our "welcome back" package:

  • Dead Nation
  • inFAMOUS
  • LittleBigPlanet

  • Wipeout HD + Fury

For PSP owners, you will be eligible to download two PSP games from the following list. The games will be available for 30 days shortly after PlayStation Store is restored and can be kept forever.

  • LittleBigPlanet (PSP)
  • ModNation Racers
  • Pursuit Force
  • Killzone Liberation

  • A selection of “On Us” rental movie titles will be available to PlayStation Network customers over one weekend, where Video Service is available. Those titles will be announced soon.

I gotta say, after all that I'm glad the PSN went down. 😛 I was already about to buy Quest for Booty, as well as LBP2, but now I can get the former plus the latter's sequel (which will keep me enterained until LBP2 drops in price, or LBP3 is on the way) for free! This honestly could not have come at a better time.

Looked into those other free games and none of them appealed at all to me, so that makes the decision all the easier.

EDIT: wtf I misread the list, QfB isn't on there! But someone else said it was, so maybe it changed or nothing is official yet. God dammit they better put it on there.

Hmm, wonder if I can get it too lol. If it won't have it I'll email them saying I purchased my PS3 before I could make the account to play online, which is true. Might work, worth a shot lol.

inFamous and LBP would be awesome though for free lol.

Apparently, Europeans get Quest for Booty while us Americans get stuck with Super freaking Stardust. What the hell, Sony. Now I'm bitter again.

damn, guess I'm gonna have to spend $10 anyway. It's only Europe, Latin America is in the same boat as us NA's lol.

Is it $10 or $15 in the PS Store? Just remembered that I have an Amazon card I need to use and it's listed as $15 there, but I don't want to to pay more than I have to. Can't seem to find a price on the PS Store website.

In order to be eligible for the welcome back package, you have to have had a PSN account before the hack on April 20th or whatever.

I'm cool with the package, from what I hear inFamous and LittleBigPlanet are both amazing games, so I'll gladly take those for free.

Getting 2 games for free, and an online service that's free is quite a deal to me, I don't play much online anyway so the outage didn't hurt me too bad.

Yeah unfortunate but meh, I mostly just use the PS3 for blurays and the occasional game of R&C 😛
