Hello

I host a forum at a free forum host.

we are planning to host our own forum. But are not sure about what to look for as we are not aware of our present forum's Database size / badwidth.

Me & mods are planning to first check out a free webhost to gauge our requirements.
We are all all students & are a little on the wrong side of ample funds ~frown~ ~frown~ ~frown~

please can you suggest a free webhost that is reliable, fast, & has good uptime. & also has MySql & allows backup too.

I hv tried x10hosting & it is ~redface~ ~redface~ ~redface~ ~redface~ ~redface~

With Fowler's help we estimate our requirements to be min 300Mb to max 1Gb web space & min Bw req is 10Gb.

Plizzzzzzzzzzz can any1 suggest a good free web host

If you want to post, you can try Trap17, but other than that there ARE NOT RELIABLE FREE HOSTS! I found that out the hard way~twice!!

i think max disk size would only be about 500MB max.

If you want to manage your own website then i would suggest paying for it rather than using another free host as they are not reliable, you get for what you pay for

Free hosts are not the best option. Sometimes a free host will disappear never to be seen or heard from again and you risk losing all your hard work. If you can it's best to pay for hosting. I use Cirtex Hosting which offers cheap hosting for $2.99/month. Their site is located @ http://cirtexhosting.com

Best to try the Ducky server as Fowler and I are using this server with fantastic results. I was hosted on the Nifty server and had some downtime and slowness so you may want to avoid that server if you can.

If you plan on making a forum and want to experiment a little bit, you could try making a test forum @ Forumotion. I hear they are good, but I've never used them myself. They are @ http://forumotion.com

Good Luck with whatever you decide to do.

True but it's a good idea to play around with a forum before you make one on your site. You don't want to be on your own host and mess things up, and then "be in trouble".

You can get unlimited space and bandwidth for $5 / month at site5.com -> http://www.site5.com/hosting/

Mind you, there's only 2 days left.

Free hosts are a bad idea, also the same to be said for hosts that have unlimitted bandwidth/space simply because everything has a limit.

Also you are paying for all that unlimited space and BW but you are going to hit the CPU or memory limit before you hit 15gb bandwidth so you may aswell pay for what you need and not pay for loads of stuff hat you can never used.

Not really, hard disk space is pretty cheap nowadays. If it gets close to being full they'll just add another 500GB onto it.
