I use it, I love it, and I add to it as often as I can. My NAS loves and hates me for constantly adding to it, lol
AWESOME!! Welcome to the club 🙂. You're going to have fun getting everything setup and getting Plex going. If you need a hand, feel free to ask, we'll get you setup 🙂I finally pulled the trigger on my NAS, should be here in a few days. Excited to throw Plex on it!

100%, it's so satisfying! Do you have an optical drive to work with? I purchased a cheap external one that has good speeds and it makes it nice and quick to rip a DVD or Blu Ray and then converting is nice and easy, too! It's a little learning curve, but once you've done it a couple of times it becomes automatic and you'll wish you'd done it years ago! That's appreciated! I look forward to getting every DVD/CD I own all on there at some point. 😛

Give it a go first, see how it handles things, but yeah, it might be a decent idea to invest in one!I've got a pretty old one that I purchased off Wish or something many years ago. I'd imagine I'll be needing to grab a new one.

The very start of a deep, deep rabbit hole, lol. Once you get a handle on things you'll be spinning up containers for all sorts of things on your NAS, network monitors, and so on 😉Sounds like a plan!
Yep! Plex Pass is great, and the lifetime license is worth the investment. My son in law wanted me to build a Plex setup. Do you 2 pay for this? They have a lifetime plan for 119.00. Is the Plex Pass worth it? Any limits you have to watch out for?
Absolutely! Plex requires very minimal resources, so you can use anything from a raspberry pi on up to full enterprise level hardware and it'll work. Storage is the only true consideration, and while I splurged on expensive NAS drives when I could afford it (Seagate Ironwolf drives), you can literally use any drives and be fine!Edit: I started to read abit more about the server end of things. I have a server sitting here that I may try it out on. Will have to add more drives to it if I want to keep using it.
If you had Windows Server 16 you could install Docker and spin up a Plex Media Server container, but I don't think Docker works on Windows Server '12, sadly.I guess you can't install it on a Windows Server 2012 R2 rig.
I am going to try Ubuntu server I think. If you had Windows Server 16 you could install Docker and spin up a Plex Media Server container, but I don't think Docker works on Windows Server '12, sadly.
Edit -- actually, strike that, you could run a linux VM and then install Docker CE that way. Not exactly a lightweight solution, but a solution.
Perfect, then you can slap Docker on there and spin up a Plex Media Server container and you're up and running 🙂I am going to try Ubuntu server I think.
Absolutely the best move for that reason, and it's not hard at all to supplement your library with new content 🙂We have a Plex server at the house. It has so far been the best idea I ever did with our media as now everything is digital, and we don't have any streaming subs to pay for.
