Awesome! Never forget you can reach out anytime if you need a hand!Followed a YouTube video and got Plex installed on my NAS last night. Today I’ll be seeing what all I can put on it!

Excited to throw Plex on it!
Even though I have the Highlander show all on dvd, it was good seeing it on Plex for free.
It sure is! It's rewarding, though, and makes you really appreciate having control over YOUR media 🙂Sounds good, thanks. Definitely a learning experience!
They do have some great free stuff available🙂Even though I have the Highlander show all on dvd, it was good seeing it on Plex for free.
Definitely! Super convenient!I’m not too excited about the free movies/TV shows Plex provides. There’s a few things I’d probably watch (like Everybody Hates Chris), but it’s more so about getting all my physical media in one place that I can access wherever and whenever. 🙂

I wish those digital codes actually let you download the movies. I have about 40 on Vudu I'd rather have on Plex, but sadly you don't get the actual file, just the right to stream itlol sometimes free isn't all it's cracked up to be. We have a small library of digital downloads with Vudu that came with a lot of the disc movies we bought. My wife scanned a lot of those codes you get with her phone on the app.
I think the only way they'll let you download is if you go off of the Sony or Microsoft store where they let you download games. I remember buying the digital download of Avengers Endgame for my PS4 and I downloaded it onto that console. But I'm not sure if that would play off of a MP4 player or if there are system restrictions on those files.I wish those digital codes actually let you download the movies. Yeah, it's similar to other solutions where you don't actually own the file, it's a proprietary format and only usable with Vudu, sadlyI think the only way they'll let you download is if you go off of the Sony or Microsoft store where they let you download games. Sadly, I think they're wanting to restrict people because of piracy. Seeing as that is the case, I'm surprised they haven't gotten rid of physical copies yet. People can rip the dvd and convert the file into an MP4 and then turn around and put that file onto the internet for people to view off of a bootleg website lol.Yeah, it's similar to other solutions where you don't actually own the file, it's a proprietary format and only usable with Vudu, sadly
Yeah, but ripping for a personal backup is still protected, thankfully! Piracy isn't good, but backing up your own media is a safety measure worth taking.Sadly, I think they're wanting to restrict people because of piracy. I used to do that all of the time using freeware. The burn copies don't last very long unfortunately. The purple dye eventually goes bad slowly corrupting the disc, versus where the original copy has an aluminum base in it to where it lasts longer.Yeah, but ripping for a personal backup is still protected, thankfully! Oh absolutely, but saving a digital copy keeps it safe for a much longer time. 🙂I used to do that all of the time using freeware. The burn copies don't last very long unfortunately. Absolutely. I did that for a little while, but for some reason I missed buying movies and felt bad about it. My conscience eventually caught up with me.Oh absolutely, but saving a digital copy keeps it safe for a much longer time. 🙂
Oh I'm not saying to not buy movies, I buy all of my movies, I just also back them up digitally for safety. I scour thrift stores, dollar tree, clearance bins, pharmacies, and online stores looking for good deals on DVDs and Blu Rays, and when I find those deals I pick them up, bring them home and back them up. It saves wear on the disk, it protects the media long-term, and it's completely legally acquired.Absolutely. I wish physical media was promoted more than online streaming is. No new upgrades for it has come out since BD unfortunately.Oh I'm not saying to not buy movies, I buy all of my movies, I just also back them up digitally for safety. Sadly physical media is on the way out. As a collector and someone who worries about maintaining control over my own media, it's a real worry moving forward that we'll never really own anything anymore. I'm keeping my DVDs, Blu Rays and physical games as long as I can! Digital is convenient, but physical media is an assurance that you own it and it can't just be yanked away from your account on a whim because of x, y, z issue from company a to company b. It's the truly unfortunate reality we're already living in, but I'll be that dinosaur that keeps their physical copies going as long as possible, and I will 100% back them up so I can enjoy that content that I own for as long as is feasible.I wish physical media was promoted more than online streaming is. (look at software, we don't even own that anymore, we pay for Software as a Service, SaaS. You rent the software for a fee and pay forever, never really owning it. Gone are the days of purchasing the software and downloading it and that's the end of it, you own it.)
Oh same, I haven't had a TV service in about 13 years at this point, possibly longer. Never, ever want that mess again! No streaming services, either, just Plex and my own media 🙂It's cheaper in the long run with disc media because you're not having to pay for Internet or (x amount) of streaming services. That stuff gets pricy depending on what you're paying for. I bought all of my tv shows and movies on disc just to avoid crappy companies like Cable and Dish.
