Has XenForo users become too dependent on plugins?

I see a lot of griping about XenForo. How it's not providing features people want. But most of the features they're screaming for are just that, features that some people want and others don't, not exactly benefits that would benefits everyone.

For example, social groups wouldn't be used by everyone, but a better mobile-responsive framework would benefit everyone.

Has plugins ruined the forumers of today? Do they expect software platforms to provide these features as core because they simply want the features rather than need them?

having toom any doesn't always help, and not just XF, as a whole. If that plugin becomes inactive and is no longer supported, and you really depend on it, then you are stuffed unless you know how to update and code yourself. Keep it simple and easy

I prefer this method, as well.

I have 6 of them installed, and I really try to keep it under 10, ideally closer to 5.

I'm super picky about which ones I add, though.

I think many xF forums depend a lot on plugins, but I wouldn't consider it a bad thing. Installing/buying plugins helps developers continue to improve their plugins and create new ones. I do wish xF would, in the future at least, start implementing some of the basic plugins to be included with their software by default.
