Occasionally I get PMs from people asking me to join their forum. Have you ever got these type of PMs, or have you ever sent them yourself?
What is your opinion on this method of advertising?

i believe there was already a topic on this.

PM advertisers, when caught on my forum, are banned, and their URL is put into the censored words list. 😉

i allow free advertising, and put whatever you like in your sig to attract members.

PM advertising, is for those who are lazy, and want to take the easy and cheap way out. like a new gaming site admin, will goto a gaming sites forum, and PM their members and advertise.

i understand ad forums doing this, for new forum admins, cause they may not know about ad forums, i didn't until i was pm'd.

I agree with that policy.
I had never thought of using the censored words list to ban URLS, that is a good idea. I will be using that in future.

yop, censor the entire url link, and, if you really wanna mean business, censor the forum title as well.

you may can ban them, but htey can return, but, do these, and they'll give up 😉

I have never sent one out and never will.

We tend to remove their PM rights here at FP or ban them if they sent out quite a few.

I never join sites that have been sent to me in spam pm's and if i was a member of that site i tend to stop visiting.

I believe that anyone that uses this method of advertising is either desperate, lazy, or both. ~confuse~

I do think that is some cases people don't actually know it is not allowed.

That is a great idea thanks i've started a new forum and this will stop the problem if i ever get it thanks.😀

I think that PM Advertising is really annoying. People who do it obviously are too lazy to try other methods. It also clutters up inboxes :/
