How do you feel about posts just saying "PMed" and then someone replying on the public forum with "Reply Sent" and then so on?

Personally, I find it pointless as it's spamming the forum and if you let everyone know that you have sent and replied to a PM, you may as well post what you need to say on the actual forum.

Mhm, this seems like you just commented on something that happened early today. :S

Not really, this happens all the time. It's a repetitive thing and I don't feel it's necessary to make a public notice about it.

I find it completely and utterly pointless.

Surely members will see the PM notification (Or Email) before they see the Post saying that someone has sent them a PM? Which kind of renders the post useless, and as David said, It's pretty much spam.

No, it's not entirely pointless.

For somebody creating a thread stating "First person to PM me wins [insert item here]," it'd be ideal for a person to post on thread stating "PM sent" to notify and claim that he/she was the first person to PM the thread starter.

How often does that happen though?

And Actually, come to think of it, it still isn't necessary at all, the person holding that competition will simply check which PM he received first, not who replied to his thread first, The 2 things may not correspond at all. Someone may have posted before PMing etc, so I still think it's pretty pointless.

A situation like that does not entirely correlate with what I am talking about. Discussions in threads saying someone has PMed and then someone else replying that they've replied to that PM and so on, is entirely pointless.

While I have to agree it is pretty pointless most of the time, I have known occasions where people turn of their message pop-up notifications and email alerts and don't notice that they have one, so sometimes you have to go to a thread to let them know.

Somebody would still find a use for posting it, regardless of how often it happens.

I don't see how the scenario I gave would be any different with what you're talking about.

You're talking about something like this:

PosterA: PM sent.
Poster B: Replied to your PM.

That's something that would correlate exactly with my situation.

Your situation is clearly this:
Person A (thread starter): First person to PM me wins.
Person B: PM Sent.

My scenario is this:
Person A: PM me about a deal, or, I don't understand, PM me, or, Could you assist me with this code via PM, or, PM me about the cost etc.
Person B: PM Sent
Person A: Replied.

Ah. I posted believing that this entire thread was only about people posting the "PM sent" comment on a thread.

one thing that i believe is like when someone asks for something like graphics etc. and asks the other members to send him a PM with the graphics then posting "PM sent" in the topic makes it clear to others that how many people have actually tried it before.

i do think that telling everyone that you sent a pm or you replied to the pm is really just spam.. And if it was on my forum i would remove those posts.. And after happening a few more times with the same person, probably take the same actions as i would with a spammer.

So if you saw a thread, 2 pages, and each comment was just "PM Sent", would you just keep that? If most topics were like that in a forum, would you still allow that?

i am not saying about most topics but some topics like the lottery ones or suggestion ones or job applications etc.

I often get surprised at the minuscule things people point out in annoyance. 😛

This topic is an example of that.

But the thing is people post in topics that are "out there" and it is evident throughout this forum.

Same could be said about your "Admin Me or I quit!" topic. A simple answer to that would be to ignore it. Such a minuscule thing 😛 That topic would be an example of that 😉

...Who cares?

It's just...trivial if people choose to do this or not. I don't care. I just skip over silly posts like that. 😛

Yeah, we try to ignore them, though it can become repetitively annoying.

@theezy, 🙂
