Points and Shops

Many Forums have Mod's that give points per post or contest, and then let you spend them or trade them for services or for some shop stuff, like custom name color, etc.
What are your opinions on this?

I don't think it's for every forum. But definitely a must for promotion forums and sometimes even webmaster boards.

I have it on my general chat forum for the fun of it, but i'll be adding things which members can buy in the future.

Promotion forums need it. I'd recommend it in actually any forum where either the user is too offer services (design, code, promote) or the forum offers services.

My forum's general chat and we have this feature as well, mainly you can use the points you earn while posting to buy things like arcade passes as well as other neat items.

I agree that it is a must for promotion forum. Yes, you could offer services for real money, like PayPal or whatever, but not everyone has a PayPal account, so for these people, paying with the points they earn is the next best thing to paying out of their own pocket.
