POLICE ATTACKED BY YOUNG BLACK REVOLUTIONARIES IN BALTIMORE
By Baruti M. Kamau, Citizen Reporter for Barutiwa News Online

Yesterday, on April 27th, young Black Americans rose up and informally expressed their discontent with local conditions in Baltimore, Maryland. They attacked the police with rocks, bricks and sticks. The uprising in Baltimore looked similar to the Palestinian conflict in Gaza city where Palestinian youth throw rocks at armed Israeli soldiers and army tanks. 20 police officers (black and white) were injured in the uprising. At least 6 were hospitalized. Black American youth have been in the vanguard of the black liberation struggle since slavery. Gabriel Prosser (1776-1800), a black American youth who was a slave, was only 24 years old when he plotted to kidnap Virginia's governor, James Monroe (1758-1831), and demand the state of Virginia to free all slaves. Prosser had 500 slaves on standby to attack Richmond. However, his rebellion never took place. Monroe learned of the conspiracy and sent the state militia to apprehend Prosser and his co-conspirators. Gabriel Prosser was executed in 1800. He was hanged to death. His effort was the most ambitious among abolitionist of his time. He is now one of Black America's national heroes.

Re: Police attacked by young black revolutionaries in Baltim

I'll copy & paste the same thing I have in a blog post.

Whenever something angers or upsets us, we, as human beings, resort to anger and violence. Found out your daughter has a boyfriend and they're having sex? Most of the time the father gets pissed and wants to hurt him. Found out a family member was attacked? We want to retaliate with violence. A guy ends up with a spinal cord injury from a police officer and dies as a result of it? Lets react with violence. Instead of trying to set up a donation fund or pay for the family to get therapy, lets riot. Lets steal from innocent people who had nothing to do with it. Lets burn and destroy someone's property that had nothing to do with it.

People are quick to accuse cops of being monsters, of bad people. Yet, here you are, rioting. Holding a makeshift molotov cocktail and throwing it at an innocent person's shop. Here you are, scaring and hurting people who had nothing to do with what happened. Why? That is who we are, it's in our nature to be violent in the face of anger or an injustice. What happened to that man is tragic, but how is causing people and the city hundreds if not thousands of dollars going to help? Do you really think Freddie Gray would want you to act like vicious, idiotic animals who have no concern for others?

Here we are. Baltimore is a mess. At one point looking like it did so many years ago during even worse riots. This is who we are. We are violent, terrible people who use these injustices as an excuse to be violent and cause chaos. The truth that no one wants to admit, we are all the same. We are not different from the police because they are humans who react with anger much like you. One injustice does not justify another.

Well said Arariel. I didn't expect it to get any worse but when I saw the news of the riots. I thought to myself "man this just got a level higher of messed up."

Well....I will admit. I hate to see fighting and disharmony. I wish people could get along and not be so narrow minded. This is sad.
