So I've been debating if I want to continue with the name "The Forums". While it seems to be a unique name, a general forum isn't very unique and I feel it suffers. My intentions are good with what I'm wanting to do, but maybe a games forum would be better suited? It seems to dominantly be a gaming forum already and honestly, I feel I could possibly make more progression if it was more dedicated to gaming.

With that said, any name suggestions? So far I like gamesforum.gg, however gamesforum.com is already a thing and even though they're dead, I think it would be odd to just make another forum that is exactly the same, with the same name, just different extension. I would love to have a more unique name that doesn't say gaming, I'm just struggling with that. Open to all suggestions!

The reasoning for the quick name change is due to the forums being new still. It would be a perfect time to change the name before I'm fully established!

How does "Players Together" or "Players Hideout" sound to you? Or... simply "Game-On"?

Forums are forums and so every site that has forums will need an name. But regards to the topic you needed an name? for your site.

hm...Have any others up your sleeve?

I've also been reading a ton and I may even switch to xenforo...After using Forumpromotion I think I like xenforo a lot..

I've always felt like hyphens in domain names are a tacky, but that's probably just a personal preference of mine. In general, I like that your community is named The Forums. I think it's a cool name, but I don't feel like it will ever do you any favors when it comes to SEO.

If you're serious about changing the name of your forum, then let's think about what your forum is about. In some ways, it looks like your forum is a general chat forum. There's a lot of different discussions going on. If your aim is being a general discussion forum, then I see no reason to change the name of your forum. Still, if your goal is to be a general gaming community, then it could make sense to rebrand. You could focus on finding a domain with great keywords, and you're probably not going to find anything great like that as a .com, .net, or .org.

There's so many domain extensions now though, you can probably find a "VideoGameForum.li" or "GamesForum.gg" or whatever. If you'd rather stick with the traditional TLDs, then that's when you're really going to need to be creative. You're going to want to find a .com (or maybe .net/.org) domain that you can really and truly brand. There's plenty of successful gaming forums being promoted here, so you can definitely see examples of this in our Promotion Directory. JoyFreak.com and DestroyRepeat.com are two examples that I know of off the top of my head. They've come up with awesome names for their communities.

Also, I've moved this topic to the Brainstorming forum, as I feel like this is the best location for this type of topic. 🙂

First of all, why .gg?

Player's Hideout sounds nice but it just seems a bit long and tacky

Maybe "GamForu" (from simply "game forum"), and then I'm out. At least I tried

haha sounds like a japanese version of a gaming forum.

@The Grinch the fact that you point out that it's a general chat forum gives it a lot of possibilities to have a great domain name with a .com, .net and etc, it's just about creativity.

@Nightblood , I have always wanted to create my own gaming forum, but I never got the opportunity for it. You can use what I had in mind for a gaming forum name, I just checked and it still is available

gamecord.net

Game is the genre, cord is derived from the word "discord" which is about discussion. Hope it helps buddy, good luck!

Well jeeze. I absolutely enjoy that you all chimed in! I got .gg from gg meaning "good game" and there's quite a few gaming sites going to that extension.

A general discussion forum is nice and all as I myself am interested in real life in several different subjects, but I feel the same could be achieved with a gaming forum and it would be more of a niche. I've noticed unless your forum has a certain niche, forum communities just aren't the same as they were before. I've pondered the idea of just keeping "the forums" to see where it goes and starting a gaming forum as I feel I would have the most success. Most get on the computer for exactly that, gaming.

@Vaulient that's actually one hell of a name you got there. I will try to think of more ideas myself and with the rest of you before making the decision. If I do decide on gamecord, Maybe we can work together on this project if you're up for it? I plan on going either xenforo or ipb as mybb just isn't where I thought it would be in 2018. Mybb 2.0 is supposed to come out anytime and I feel that's a good reason to keep the forums alive. I did just invest a lot of time into making this theme so I dont think I want to completely waste that effort.

I'm glad you loved my suggestion! Well I do love games and I've been a moderator on a MMO gaming forum with over 2000+ daily users for over 3 years. I'd be more than happy to help out 🙂

Maybe you can stick with The-Forums and have gamecord as a brother forum. Like AnimeBase, they have narutobase as a brother forum. That way you widen your audience targeting by whole lot where TF will have users who are interested in all other things that is relevant to it and gamecord will consist of gamers as an audience. Maybe you can have gamecord as a brand and even start up a Facebook page and use FB ads to advertise your forum and get more user engagement. Maybe post about interesting news' like for example the heaty news out there right now that China may ban Fortnite and other battle royale games. These type of thread titles would peak an interest and users may click on link and be redirected. You get the idea haha.
