Do you find any use in posting news articles on your forum? Granted, it may be a good idea for gaming forums to post the latest news on the gaming industry or for anime forums to keep up-to-date on the latest anime news. But what about just posting world news in say... your general discussion area? Does it provide any sort of benefit in your opinion?

If the news is relevant to your niche, then yes it's a good idea to have a news forum.

Furthermore, if you have say blog where you promote new product releases, a news section where you present news on the latest product release is also a good idea.

If you mean having a generic 'news' section, then this could distract your blog visitors from the rest of the content which IS relevant to your niche.

I think it is a good idea just because it gives your users something to come back to every now and then, which is what you want. However, it should mainly be geared to your niche.

I use a portal on mine, in doing so I use the portal page to house all of the announcements I make. Things such as updates to the site and things related to the site. I have them all in a separate forum/category. The only time I make global news is for things like signature guidelines an so forth.

I say depending on how you use your site depends on if you should post news articles.

I run both a gaming forum and a gaming blog, with the articles from the latter also being auto posted on the former. Seems to work fine for me, and gets quite a few replies depending on the article in question.

Article posting is the best way of increasing viewership of your forum. My forum receives a lot of organic traffic this way.

Talking about world news (taking your example) is good for any forum in my opinion, as long as it stays in the off-topic or news section. I love discussing daily world news with other members, so I wouldn't say it should only be for certain forums.
