Pre-Launch Review

Site Name: Family Guy: Back to the Multiverse Forum
Site Type: Game Fan-site Forum
Age: 8 days

Appearance

The appearance is not very bad. The overall theme is not bad, but does not stand out either. The blue is fresh but not unique. Starting from the top, you have yet to add a favicon. For the banner, it actually looks good, except that it doesn't really tell what a Family Guy: Back to the Multiverse actually is. It needs to stand out to give impression and explanation of what your forum has to offer. As a guest, I see "Private Messages (Unread {1}, Total {2})" in the links above the forums. When I logged in, I got two lines of notification of new comment. I also encountered error when trying to use "mark all forums as read". You will need to fix these technical issues related to appearance. In forum body, there isn't much to say. The forums/categories icon is just standard bubble icons, so are the topic icons. Try to find images related to what your forum is about for stronger impression. You align most lines to the left; while I personally think center or right align will look better, there is nothing wrong with that.

In general what I think you need is a more customized theme to match the forum's idea.

Layout

I'm not familiar with the series so I can't say much. All I see is that the on-topic sections are less than off-topic ones. You may want to reconsider the number of off-topic sections; make it small but with content. I'm not even sure the cash exchange section is needed. Expand the on-topic sections if you see any possibility; if not then just focus on adding content to the on-topic section as it looks very empty now compared to off-topic ones. From what I see posted at your forum the game is already released so you can actually see what kind of topics players will be most interested in. I'm not sure "Troubleshooting" is needed there, given that this is a game. Perhaps more of a tips/tricks/walkthrough section, but it can be included as sub-forum under the game's general discussion section.

First Impressions and Interest

First impression is rather confusing. Judging at the name of the forum only, not many would know what it is actually about. Upon visiting and looking at the board names and descriptions that you can tell it is actually a game. A name probably can't be helped, but maybe you can make the top of the forum to show more of what your niche actually is, just so visitors can know immediately what they will find in your forum. With its current status, there isn't much content yet so I think visitors will think that they would have nothing to do at your forum. You may need to add more content and encourage discussion to make visitors interested.

Content

Content wise, there is still so little you have related to the game itself. I see you started so many threads for other Family Guy episodes. Perhaps for the time being as you add content to the game sections, you can pump members and encourage them to post and give opinions there. As mentioned above too I think you need to consolidate your off-topic sections and add content instead having them separated like that, each rather empty, and larger than on-topic sections. Grammar wise I don't find any mistakes. Maybe you can give a more collaborative descriptions of the series and what the sections are for, especially related to the series, so even those who are not familiar with it can understand a bit more. One last thing will be to get members to start posting. You have many threads, but lack members posting. Try to start topics which can be debated; for example about graphic element of the game, or about boss battles of the games, and so on.

Words from the Reviewer

Still very young, Family Guy: Back to the Multiverse is very specific for a certain game. This means good and bad. You are specific, meaning you have specific fan base too. This is your power. If you can find your target audience, bring them to your forum, and make them stay, you will be successful. Otherwise, the forum will die quick being too specific. All the best!

Thanks for the review, very helpful. In regards to a few of your points, we do have a favicon, not sure why your browser is not showing it.

And also, the game does not get released for a while, hence the large amount of posts in the off-topic and Family Guy related topics, I figured if there is not much news on the game itself I'll give them something to talk about.

And you say you are not sure what the forum is about, it's a game specific forum so don't you think that the people that would look for the forum would know what it is? I'm not looking for random people, I want members who are there for the game.

Very strange, it didn't load for me. Sorry about that mistake.

I understand, but don't you want to invite new members/players for the series too? Perhaps if you can make the forum more interesting with various content and such, you will be able to catch attention of those who don't know the series. They may become interested to try out the game, and if they like it, you will earn yourself a few of new, dedicated members to the series, no? That way your forum can prosper too. And it is not possible for non-players to get to that point unless they can actually tell what your forum is about.

If you only target current players, it's different case indeed, but don't you want to try to spread news about the game instead of just finding current players? That can be rather hard.
