Appearance
First time visiting your forum, it feels dark and the content has good contrast, which is good given your dark theme. From the top, I see you have already added your favicon, which is good. Your banner is quite good although pretty standard. The effect and color is a good idea. What you need to perk up the banner are pictures related to the idea of your forum and maybe a more unique font to use. Aside that, the effect and color are great. The navigation bar is good. I think you need to improve on your forum menu/navigation, though. See these two screenshots for better idea:
screenshot 1 vs
screenshot 2. See the red box? I think you should make all text visible so easier information for everyone. For the body of the forum, I feel that the brown new-post forum marker doesn't blend well with your dark blue theme. Probably just change the color pistol mark icon you used for the marker (I hope you understand what I mean here, I don't know the correct term, sorry) leaving the background still blue. The classic post layout you used is destroyed when members have too long user name. For this the solution will be to use the horizontal post layout, or enlarge the width of poster info column in classic layout. Topic icons are MyBB standard so change it when you can. The post buttons and rank icons are quite good. The footer is nice; you may want to consider centering the forum legend and copyright to make it tidy, but it's optional.
Layout
For layout I don't see much problem, I think it's quite good as it is. Few things you may want to consider:
- You probably want to merge the "Airsoft Beginner" section to "Airsoft General" for the time being. The activity there is not very high, so rather than looking at it only having two posts/threads like that it can be used to contribute to other sections.
- Don't forget to explain the abbreviations you used in your forum titles and descriptions. You wrote what AEP means, but you didn't write anything about BB or BDU. Interested visitors or those who are familiar with this kind of thing may find it easy to understand, but some others may not. You surely want to cover all kind of visitors, not only those who have known airsoft before hand, no?
First Impressions and Interest
Given that I am not interested in your forum's idea, this airsoft thing, I could hardly say anything here. However, given the sections you provided for interested visitors, I think it is already quite good. There seem to be many to be discussed about and the forum is quite alive. Keep on adding content and probably expanding the discussion to not only the tool itself but also the activities to be done with it, for example. That way visitors would probably be more interested in checking out your forum and its content.
Content
You've only opened for three weeks so there may not be many chance to grow on the content. However, you will have to work hard on it. From 800 posts you have, 200 are from off-topic discussion and around another 200 from announcement and feedback. That's already half of your total forum posts. I see that you quite lack threads. Try to add more threads, especially to those sections with only 1 thread, and ask help from your friends who know about this topic to help sending replies in. And always be up-to-date with your forum's idea so you can provide new info immediately; that goes without saying, right?
Words from the Reviewer
A forum with specific niche is like two-eyed blade. It probably saves you from having to worry of competitors, but you are heavily depended on visitors or members who really know about what your forum is talking about. Therefore, you have to find the place where you can get your target audience. Go to related websites, talk and leave link to your forum there. Hopefully you'll be more known like that. Good luck!
